Mine arrived today, brilliant job Mev, don't know how you can do these for that price mate!, guess there's a knack to getting it right first time every time, first go success then took me about 20 goes to get a good weld on one side, by which time i'd trimmed off too much due to burnt contact points, second wire went no better, third one working and vaping it now, don't know how long to keep the button pressed for 0.25 kanthal to 0.236 nickel, anyone got any tips?

I get the most success by charging it for 3.5 seconds but it is a bit of trial and error along with lots of practice. Keeping both wires parallel to each other is very important and with an overlap of perhaps 2mm. The perfect weld would be if you could have the whole of the overlap 2mm touching because as soon as the tip of one wire touches the other the power is discharged and you can end up with just the point of one wire welded and not the full 2mm. With my old eyesight, I occasionally am circling one wire with the other, like a flippin Maypole dance. But when you get it right, it is sweet. Practice, practice and more practice. If I never successfuly weld another wire, I don't care.......its just great fun.

There certainly is a knack to welding wires and it takes a little practice and experimenting depending on the wires being used, as Greigster said keeping the wires parallel is key. Another thing that could help if you're having problems is, when welding two different metals together it is best to keep the lowest resistance one connected to the positive electrode, in our case this would be the Nickel or Silver if using that. Although it didn't really matter which way they went around when I started building these the way I've made them the positive should be the left socket, so try your no-res wire in that one.

Thanks for the tips, Mev do you mean the left one when the 2 terminals are facing you with the rest of the box behind

Received my zapper today did my first weld and it scared the bejesus out of me once I stopped jumping and getting wires parallel it works a treat.
No more twisting wires that either drop off or snap I think I've gained years of my life back Thanx Mev really really pleased with it
