Zapper - Res/No-Res wire welder

Hi Mev tried your top tip on using non res in the posi clip and kanthal in the neg clip and it does seem to work. Cracked out 4 in less than 2 minutes and they seem like a better weld. I will know more when I try winding a coil.

It's because the arc will form the weld mainly on the highest resistant metal of the 2 (kanthal), but it's also attracted more towards the positive of the current. So if the Kanthal is on the positive side the weld is created almost wholly on the kanthal because of both of these attributes. Putting the Nickel on the positive should make the weld more central between the two and make a better join.
If that makes sense to anyone..

Think I will have to Matt, I'm missing my Penny already.
Although I still have my Nautilus C and your eBaron, which is great, I have also taken on board that res/non res can also be used on gennies which eliminates the top hotspot that gennies often suffer from. All that aside, I just love zapping wires with Mev's zapper.

Sorry for not updating the thread for a few days, I spent the weekend at hospital having pulled my back. The five paid for zappers are ready and will be sent off tomorrow.

Poor you Mev, Perhaps you need to take a little break from making the Zappers. Leaning forwards over your workbench will not help.
At least you have more or less caught up with yourself on the Zappers.

We were having a new shower fitted at the weekend and I decided to help carry out the old bath, having already got a messed up back it was a stupid idea. I'm now on bed rest for a week then some MRI scans done to see what damage if any I did to the area I had an operation. Hopefully it's just swelling and will be fine by the end of the week, couldn't even walk Sunday which worried me but got up and walked about a little today.
I'll get those zappers off though that were paid up but any more orders would have to wait a little while.

Mine arrived today and I'm quite impressed - sadly the battery holder inside was broken but a bit of folded kitchen roll is keeping the base in place and it all works - I'll probably fill the gap with some hot glue soon. or change the holder.

It seems to produce plenty of discharge volts and I'm having no luck with the 99 Silver as it's so soft it literally either blows away from the other wire when the discharge happens or it just melts away - joining RES to RES has been great however. lovely 1-2mm full welds - very impressive.

So where is the best place to get hold of some NR standard wire from?
