I'm not sure which Breaktru used so I wouldn't like to say off the top of my head mate. I will have another look though. Thanks. I currently just touch the clips together when I'm finished. This is more out of interest really. I just know I'm going to forget one day and zap myself

same here mate. Taking 8 more cameras apart today I nearly got one, someone must have been pressing the flash buttons as the caps were fully charged. Luckily I just touch them with a screw driver first. Made me jump out of my skin though as i wasn't expecting any charged.

If nothing is connected then quite some time I would say, once you hook up a meter like in the vids it'll start draining it.

All you are really doing is discharging the cap via a resistor rather than creating a short which is what you are doing when welding the wires. So basically the higher the value resistor the longer it takes to discharge, the lower the value the quicker the cap can discharge. I would think a 1K 3 Watt should be fine for the job. Buy a couple of them as you can always use them in series if 1K is to low.

Caps can hold a charge for a long time, days if not weeks for sure.

So I would connect one side in line with the battery to switch it in and the other pole would be used to switch in the resisitor when the switch is back in the off position. Do a quick search in google for DPDT switches to see what I mean

Jason - I hope you are going to be getting Ellen to mass produce ready wires, I'm sure she could manage a few hundred a day - could be a nice little earner #icon_rofl#
