I haven't used my Ego batteries for ages but thought I'd give them a charge as they're pretty good with the little rebuildable I've got for checking out my new flavours. Luckily I only left the room for 5 minutes to let the dog out! I came back into the lounge to a smell of burning like rubber. After investigating I realised the battery that I'd put on charge was getting hot, but the charger end was even hotter. I turned off the power and unplugged, then I noticed that the plastic had started to melt through, I dread to think what would have happened if I'd have chosen this time to go out to the Post office or shops!

I go to sleep with mines charging all the time, but I have it above an outtake fan on the PC so it should be getting cooled! Actually, no idea if it's even safe to do that, but I do it anyway.

Just be aware Ewol, I'm totally lazy when it comes to leaving things charging, I am 100% sure that this would have gone up in flames had I have left it!

Looks like you caught it in the nick of time Dee I think a lot of us are complacent when it comes to charging batteries, myself included. Maybe it's time we all bought charger bags... I've seen them somewhere maybe Vapeescape.

Yes it was indeed Vape EscapeMy only concern with this is it would encourage the charger/batteries to overheat as it would hold heat in, where normally it might just warm up a little the sealed bag could "tip it over the edge" so to speak. Would be interesting to hear from any members that might have used one of these...

Here's what's burned. It looks as though one of the parts on the circuit board had started to burn!

Ouch! Got to admit this sort of thing is in the back of my mind with batteries but I still manage to forget them and leave them charging on occasions (not often) Heard a couple of horror stories with charging batteries and it's the reason why I bought some decent batts recently and a new (hopefully) decent charger.
Having said that I happily leave everything else in the house plugged in overnight without a second thought.

A timely reminder dee! I try to make sure I am always around when using any kind of charger, but it is easy to forget!

you can buy safety boxes which chargers + batts can be left in while charging, they are 100% totally safe then. I've always thought it over the top but when you see things like this it's probably worth having. Can't remember where I've seen them online but i'm sure a search would find them.

Hi
You say you had not used the battery for ages.
Did the charger cable and battery show the normal led indications when you first plugged in ?
Charger green then red - Battery button blink when connected

Hi You say you had not used the battery for ages. Did the charger cable and battery show the normal led indications when you first plugged in ? Charger green then red - Battery button blink when connected Andrew All looked normal when I plugged them in, the blue light on the battery flashed and the red light came on both the charger and the plug! Nothing different to when ever else I've occasionally charged them up. The batteries are fairly little used and have since charged perfectly on a different charger. I would say it's the charging unit that's got the problem. I just think it's something we all forget about from time to time. I've left batteries on charge while I've gone to bed before, something I've only just recently stopped doing, and definitely won't be doing again!
