Hello all, finally took the leap from proper cigs to these things about 3 weeks ago. Started with a Nucig (as recommended by a friend) and didn't really get on with the taste of it, so I bought a kit from smartcigs instead. Which I liked so much I bought a spare battery and a tub of eliquid. However, because I don't smoke much during the week (used to have about 6 or 7 tiny rollups a day) I didn't realise how little I got from these kr808d-1things. Usually a cartomiser lasts me about a day (or did until i started trying to fill them myself, think I'm getting the hang of it now) but then I had a night of drinking and in the space of 3 hours I went through 2 batteries and 4 cartomisers. So I am now worried about when it gets to festival time in the summer, where I will have no electricity for about 4 or 5 days at a stretch. Will I need racks of batteries and prefilled cartos? Or is there a better way?In the short term however ,I'm just looking for something that lasts longer than a standard cartomiser that fits on my smartcigs batteries (KR808d-1) and is easier to fill up than a cartomiser.Any suggestions? Also tips on how to refill those pesky cartos, I only used to get through about 3/4 of an ounce of baccy a week, so smoking didn't cost much, and I don't want vaping to get hyper-expensive. Which it is looking likely to become. Cos from what I've read I'm going to need a bigger system.

Hi Dave. It's a tough call to recommend much to someone who smokes so little. The one thing that does stand out is your 4-5 day festival stint. With that it 'might' be worth getting a couple of larger (say 900-1000mah) batteries just for those events. I think you can pick one up for under a tenner so that may address that specific problem ? To replace the cartos you can get larger capacity tanks/clearo's, but that's not something I personally use and I think your current batteries are an 808 fitting rather than a 510 ? Edit: Sorry, didn't see you were specifically after clearo advice. Ignore everyhting I said

Hi. I can't advise on the 4-5 day problem, but Vaping needn't be expensive. Buy a half decent kit, look after it and buy juice. Just avoid shiny new items and buying every make and flavour on the planet in the first 6 months. If you smoked very little, just vape very little. The initial £40-50 outlay might hurt a bit, but it'll be worth it, I assure you. Maybe you could start collecting 2nd hand batteries, enough to last 5 days? (alternatively, buy a cheap "mod" and get a load of £8 batteries all in one go and then rotate them for the next 4 years! )

I'm thinking I need to get a 510 kit or something now. Thanks for the advice so far. If I get an 808-510 adaptor, I should be able to run the 510 off my old batteries right? Could be useful... However, after only 2 weeks, my cartomisers have turned to burny tasting crap, so might have to have a weekend on the proper fags til i can get a new kit delivered. It's only when I'm at work in the week that I smoke very little, if I'm on holiday or it's the weekend i can still get through a pack of Rizlas a day. particularly in festival season. Mod and load of batteries sounds like a good idea (although I am so new to all this, i have no idea where to look for anything). Suggestions for 510 kits?

:)Hi Dave I have recently bought the Riva 1100 kit from Jason at Vapeescape and the batteries last a good day and a half and I am quite a heavy vaper. So with 2 batteries in the kit you should be well set up for your festivals. You soon get used to the bigger size of th batteries, matter of minutes. It also comes with 5 empty carts and a clearo and drip tip. Great bit of kit, next day delivery and don't forget the code "allabout" for 10% discount

Nice plan though, and I spent a couple of huors looking at other options this time, so might have finally got it right. Which is a good thing, as all my cartos taste of burn this morning, so am definitely going to finish up the baccy in my pocket this weekend while I wait for the delivery. Unless there's a way to stop the burny taste that I don't know about.

Welcome to the forum Dave. I think you've done the right thing by sending for the Riva 1100 Kit as it's really good and the batteries should last you a good few days if you're not a heavy vaper. I doubt that you'll be disappointed with it.

Hello and welcome Dave from me too It's important to get the first fill right with cartomisers and then toi keep them regularly topped up to avoid the burning taste. They are disposable items, so something you need to have back ups for. Couple of videos on this thread show how to fill cartomisers and clearomisers allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/2349?74660

Hello & welcome Dave Karma is right, you do need to make sure you get the first fill of your cartomisers right & keep them topped up to stop them burning. Plus as she also says, they are disp[osable items, so wont last forever

Thanks all, unfortunately I only came across those videos last night, and by then the 5 cartomisers i have had already started making crackly noises and tasting nasty. Luckily I just got an email saying my Riva has been dispatched, so with a bit of luck I'll get it right this time. Hope the wife doesn't work out how much I'm chucking around on this.

Dave, the crackling sound is good, it usually means the cartos are heating up & are filled correctly However, once the carto is burned, no matter how many times you refill it, it will still taste burned.

Welcome Dave.
A fair upfront cost that soon pays for itself, my habit costs me about 30p a day now.
I fill cartos by whipping out the stopper, stuffing half a cocktail stick down the centre hole and then adding juice.
After it settles pour off any over fill, remove stick, replace stopper, blow through from bottom and vape away on a full carto.
It's quicker than it sounds, especially if you grab a half dozen carto's together with an elastic band and do them all together.

That's exactly what I did last night raid. Sounds like I finally got one right! Anyone found a way of hanging an ecig out of the corner of their mouth so they can vape while doing something else yet? Or do I need a harmonica holder thingy?
