Hi,
I'm not quite a newbie but there are still questions where I have no idea what the answer is. Vendors sell batteries with a bewildering range of mAh values. I want to buy some new 18650s and see VapeEscape sell them with 2000 and 3400 mAh values. I now have a Bolt (with extension) and a Lavatube VV (the first one I assume). Is it safe to buy batteries with any mAh value provided they are above the manufacturer's stated threshold (usually 650 mAh)? And if anyone can tell me whether the slightly bigger 3400 mAh batteries fits my kit that would be great.
Cheers
Chris

Don't know much about the Lavatube but found this: 18650 batteries that retain their 18mm 65mm characteristics. so those sold alongside the LavaTube are probarbly best but other 18650's such as true AW IMR 1600mah batteries, will also fit. here is a link to the AW batteries which are often used in ProVari but great too for use in a LavaTube. www.ledfiretorches.co.uk/aw-imr-18650-rechargeable-safe-chemistry-batteries.htmlthese are obviously expensive when compared to the Lavatube batteries from ecigwizard, but they are good quality batteries and often highly recommended.

I'd watch the Efest 3400maH . . . the diameter of them can be too large for some Mods, check with Jason or Ellen on those. AW's are brilliant I'm still using the ones I bought almost 2 years ago, so worth the investment.

Can I bump my own post? I would still like to know whether this is true in general. Is it safe to use batteries with any mAh value provided they are above the manufacturer's stated threshold (usually 650 mAh)? Thanks for the advice about the 18650s Chris

The mAh is just the capacity of the battery, so quite safe to use, regardless of how high. 18650's are usually 1600mAh and upwards. Beware though that cheap batteries can wildy over state their true capacity! In a Lavatube you have to be careful of the physical dimensions of the battery as it will only take one that is 65mm long and some of the higher mAh batteries are quite a bit longer than that. Best also to stick to an IMR battery in a VV mod - AW, Panasonic, Sanyo, Efest and some others are all good makes. The Bolt is probably more flexible and you might be better getting a protected battery for that.

Thanks Dave - got it now. I'm looking to use the same type of batteries in the Lavatube and the Bolt - my battery management skills are stretched as it is.
