Cheers guys and thank you Phoenix for starting this thread! I do now have a spare Kobo which has been given to me, so hopefully I can download the books I still haven't read onto that, then I think it will be the paperwhite Kindle with back light. Cheaper than the 'Fire' so Mr Karma will be pleased You are actually going to tell him karma, that's a first

Yeah but the kindle fire is a normal tablet, as opposed to an e-reader, so of course is more usefull but i reckon not as good if you want to read a book on it. She has read loads of books on it with no problems bluefish.

Is it still working well over a year old Suede? My daughter has had hers for almost 3 years (May) and is still going strong, it's the one with the keyboard. I have around 25,000 ebooks for her to work her way through over the years

The covers aren't cheap but AFAIK you can play audio books on the basic kindle. I saw the covers in PC world during the January sale but they were sold out when I went back to buy one. Maybe you would be better waiting to upgrade when they incorporate speakers in the paperwhite some time in the future.
