I have plex on my desktop and my tv wifi used to pick it up, now it does not? If I disable windows firewall on the desktop then the daughters lappy picks it up fine, but still the tv does not, I've spent loads of time at the weekend trying different things, the firewall will not allow exceptions? well it seems not to hold them, I even downloaded xbmc but tv can't pick that up either, have uninstalled plex and re-installed makes no differance, one thing, on the old tv we used to just run a hdmi cable into the tv from the desktop, tried this and it say's no signal, eh? So basically I have just about given up on it, plex when it works is brill, problem is it isn't, any idea's folks, or anything to download that will work? cheers andy. Ps, desktop running vista and chrome or ie, and the tv is an LG 47L M640T ZL

I also use XMBC and think it's the dog's danglies, I have a media PC/server hooked up to TV via HDMI though which it is installed on and a nifty little keyboard/mouse combo.

If Plex can be picked up on a laptop then it suggests to me that the problem is on the TV side. I assume your telly can do YouTube et al - is that still working OK?
I know it's a bit cliché but restarting your router may also help all devices on your network forget everything they know about each others' IP addresses and rediscover each other.

I personally run two Jailbreaked Apple TV's version 1 and a version 2, using Firecore's ATV Flash, which if you ask me is by far the best media software, simple to set up and easy to use.
have of course used XMBC, but it has issues playing some types of files, ATV Flash plays everything in my collection, all films i have bought from the ATV as well, did try Plex once thought it was awful.
as NickIcon suggested rebooting your router helps, I find if my main NAS Drives stops being acceessible, rebooting either the router or NAS cures that issues

+1 for jail broken ATV2 and XBMC 12 - 'Frodo'
Plex is ok for iPad
on topic, have you updated XBMC lately? Perhaps some settings were lost?

I only downloaded xbmc the other day, any how I have decided to start afresh as i think the main problem is a firewall problem, it does not allow any exceptions, so I am currently copying all my photos and downloads to a hard drive and do a fresh install, I have just enough space at about 350gig. I know what you will say to this but I'll ask anyhow lol, should I put vista back on from the discs I made when I got it, I have no idea if they would work even, or something else, if so what? Running quad core with 4gig ram and 2.34 ghz.

Are you just using an external HD, or a NAS in all honesty once I discovered NAS drives there was no going back, they regulate themselves and put themselves to sleep, so no over heating, best part is they are always connected to your network. one thing I found with an external is while they are powered on they are perma on and do overheat, it's why I also moved my time maching back ups to a NAS drive as well.

Ciar, just an external HD, I have no idea what a Nas is, unless you add car after it, it's not left on all the time, you would think it would turn off when you turn off the puter but no, so have to unplug it.
