Still shaken up now :-(
I'm amazed that someone of 13-15 years hasn't yet learned to not cross the road from in front of a large vehicle (her Dad's van) without looking and listening to music (I assume) Even my screeching to a stop inches from her knees wasn't enough to break her concentration on One Direction or whatever she was dreaming about. She didn't hear my horn or me shouting at her. Her Dad did though so I ripped into him and told him his daughter should have been taught how to cross the road by her age. Thankfully his little girl was still blissfully oblivious to the shouting match and the fact she had avoided hospital and I had avoided a lot of paper work at the police station by the matter of a few inches.
Just as well I was on the ball and been driving long enough for my spidey senses to be tingling that something was going to go down so subconsciously slowed down.
Still doubt she's learned a lesson from it because she was unaware of any of it. Her Dad will give her an almighty bollocking though no doubt lol
Terrifying how close it was though :-(

That kind of thing can leave you very shaken. I see so many pedestrians and even cyclists with earphones in I wonder there isn't more slaughter

Well done on the reactions mate. I know how you feel. I had a little girl fall into the wheel arch when i was driving buses. She was on her bike went round a wheelie bin on the pavement fell off and into the big wheel arch on my bus. I only just noticed in my mirror. Hit the brakes and panicked. She was ok though thank god but by the time i got to yeovil i was a nervous wreck and had to drive a bus load of passengers back to wells. Not good.
I know how you are feeling. Shaky?

Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 stuck in the middle of nowhere in my truck! That is scary! Yes relieved but shaky a bit freaked out and skittish. My hands have stopped shaking (mostly) now but I feel jumpy. Some hardcore usage of the Evic has helped, lol and I still haven't smoked. Still... could have been so easily a different result and has made me realise that life can change very dramatically in an instant with cars and pedestrians. Generally I see them a long time before they try and suicide themselves, but this girl was especially determined hehe

Aww, hope you feel better soon, Kibbster. I have to admit, I walked out in front of a bus when I was about 12 and nearly got run over. Scared the pants off me and I learnt that lesson pretty darn quick!!

That is just dreadful Kibbster. Teenagers can often be worse on the roads than little ones. They are nturally very egocentric and notice nothing but what they are engrossed in. I remember my oldest who was 14 at the time. I told her to go across the road to get something from a shop for me. Without a glance or looking at anything she just ran into the road!! If i hadnt been looking and saw a car speeding towards her and grabbed her backwards by the back of her coat she may not be here today. Suffice to say in my shock and panic I gave her the telling off of her life. I was still in a state over several hours later.
I have also had a couple of near misses whilst driving. It is a horrendous feeling. Hope you calm down soon. And you thought it couldnt get worse after yesterday.

I'm just glad today didn't turn out as bad as it could. Small blessing and all that, everyone goes home tonight - that's the main thing

I don't think they teach the highway code now to kids? Bring back Tuffty and the greencross man he could even wear his Darth Vader gear. But I'm glad that you and the girl are okay and well done for stopping in time.

I knocked a drunk over years ago with a bus. He walked straight out in front of me at a pelican, i knocked him clean over the railing at the side of the crossing. All he was bothered about was picking his money back up off the floor so he could go for another drink. It's half an hour later when the adrenalins dropped it hits you, i didn't stop shaking for hours.

Blimey what a scare!
On a rather different note my oh was driving down a dual carriageway a couple of weeks at I was in the passenger seat when a white van pulled into our lane right beside us. I was 100% sure we were going to crash. My oh swerved and beeped his horn and the van pulled back into its own lane again. It wasn't til a few seconds later I realised that horrible squeaking sound was me screaming. Never in my life have I screamed and not known I was doin it!!
So glad all is ok in your case kibbster and well done on fab reactions!

Well done for being on the ball & I feel for you, it is very unnerving. I hope to goodness her dad got your message & has drummed it into her. I had the same experience, three teenage girls stepped out straight in front of me, too busy chatting under a brolly to worry about roads, cars or anything. I stopped, just, the brolly went up & one was my niece. She learnt a lesson that that day & that her aunt could swear like a navvy!

I have a wonderful uncle who is disabled after falling from a cliff. Anyway, when I was a kid I'd go and visit him and he'd always say before I went out the door. 'Look left and right when crossing the road' 'Watch out for cars' and so on. It's stuck in my mind all these years. Every time I cross the road now I still hear his voice. What a great guy he is.

It was drummed into me as a kid, Darth Vader helped too Actually funny point, David Prowse who was Darth Vader/Green cross code man lived down the road from me in Southmead, Bristol. Anyway, back to the point. I can't imagine just strolling across the road not looking! I would be more likely to forget to open my mouth to eat than forget to look when I cross.
