This is the second time this has happened at this bottling plant, but the best one for us, happened a few years ago when vandals got into the Cooperage and rolled 20 or so barrels into the river. Several of them washed up on our beach and each still had a few gallons of pure whisky in them.

Several local worthies were not seen for a week.

The major part of the value in the lost spirit was duty - I don't think duty would have been paid on that yet, so it's just a loss of some alcohol, cheaply enough. Even if duty had been paid, it might be re-claimable as the spirit wasn't sold.
