Great idea irishcas. Also romelee has a great starter guide for the riva which will take you through the setup step by step with videos.

Yes, I'll let you know when I start on the Riva. In the meantime I wonder if you can tell me if I can refill my cheapo ecig I bought here in Spain. Here is a photo of the three sections. The "filter" seems to have a foil core to it, which is pierced by the metal point on the small centre section. On one or two of the vapes I have had a strong taste of the liquid and when I took it apart there was a surplus of liquid on the pointy metal bit. Is there something wrong with that? Anyway, some info on how I may refill it would be good. Thanks.

You don't happen to have any of the blue sponge stuff that is used in filters for fish tanks?
If so, you could cut a bit to fit the tip of the 'filter' and drop e-juice onto it!

No, I don't, is there any other alternative? Cotton wool? Washing up sponge?

I'm not sure Emmita! As an ex fish keeper, washing up sponge at a push could be used instead of filter material. Just not sure how it would react when heated by the atomiser I tend to err on the side of caution, the blue filter material is tried and tested, washing up sponges etc not, so personally I wouldn't! When are you expecting your Riva to arrive?

I am not back in the UK until end of April, so won't be ordering it until closer to that time so it is at home when I get back. These replaceable filters are very cheap here in Spain, so cost is not an issue, was more curious if they could be refilled. As I've never seen a fish tank filter, it's hard for me to imagine why it should work in my filter. But never mind, don't think about it any more, as I said I can replace them very cheaply, it was just a question of curiosity. My other "rip off" one (pictures at top of this thread) it is completely different. It has a white bung type thing at the end of the filter, so assume I can fill that by taking the bung out, looking t see what is absorbing the liquid and replace accordingly.
