I am getting into etching brass and copper etc so I am looking for some Vamos as they are all brass with a copper layer on top and then the Chrome or Black Chrome finish. (not the SS ones obviously). I think quite a lot could be achieved on a Vamo with etching by way of small designs and lettering cut into the copper layer. If it is times right the etched bit of it would be brass with copper surrounding it. I have never etched before so it`s all a bit experimental, but it has me fired up lolol. Etching is all about experience and I dont have any, it`s a knack that only comes by trial and error.

Could you not ask a plumber or local Diy store for some off cuts to practice on ? I do have some pipe, but the interesting thing about the vamo is that it is a brass pipe, covered first in copper plating, then chrome or black chrome, so when you get the chrome off and get the remains buffed up etc you can start to etch. If you do it properly you are going to end up with brass where you have etched and a copper mask around the deign or lettering or whatever. Timing is everything of course, dont etch enough and it will stay copper where you have etched which isnt the look I am looking for. I have never etched a thing in my life apart from a few printed circuit boards decades ago while doing a bit of electronics hobbying. brysoni23

Robby, my chrome Vamo isn't dead yet but it's on the way... If you still want it when it finally passes on you can have it

If you still want it when it finally passes on you can have it Thanks mate, really appreciate it, just scruffy, or buggered? :DThe chrome ones are the easiest to work with I think, not sure about the black chrome ones. I used to think they had some sort of dark clearcoat on them, but it is actually a metal layer. Probably the same as the chrome one ie has a copper layer on the brass pipe. It`s the layers that really interest me. If you could end up with what looks like three different metals on the Vamo it would be amazing Balllsy

Got to get more soon any way coz my Igo-Ls won't screw on to em any more. In fact they won't stay on any thing I have. I think the Igo is stripping the top thread off every mod I have, because every thing else will tighten except the Igo-Ls. I think I am going to super-glue them onto my next ones so the threads don't get stressed.
