We got this by email today: Following on from numerous discussions in relation to the use of Electronic Cigarettes on site I can confirm that the code of conduct policy has been updated to reflect the business decision on this. The policy states
Can I use electronic smoking devices at work? No, you can?t use electronic smoking devices or any other devices which are made to look like cigarettes inside any of our locations, including break out areas/rooms, store back offices, coffee areas or restaurants. Whilst we want to support our employees in kicking the habit, we want to maintain a professional company image and using these types of devices inside our buildings can portray the wrong company image to our customers and visitors. You may of course use them outside our buildings in non designated smoking areas, but please avoid using them directly outside the entrance door.

So if you use something that isn't made to look like a cigarette?

Haha! Most of the people here on ecigs seem to be using the cig-a-likes.
I was thinking, depending on what you have, you might be able to pass it off as a pen and stealth vape!

use electronic smoking devices or any other devices which are made to look like cigarettes inside any of our locations, So, a pen made to look like a fag would be bad. I guess it depends how much you value your job. If you feel like leaving, vape on! let them try and sack you and then you can get compensation. I think it might be illegal to sack someone for doing something entirely legal.

A company can implement any rules it likes and sack you for breaking them, unless the rules themselves break the law. They can't, for example, implement a rule which requires you to work unsafely

I've still been going outside anyway so it doesn't really bother me, just wondered if a lot of companies don't allow it

Starbug I think as more and more companies are asked the question by their employees, more and more will take the safe route by saying 'no' unfortunately. As with all things vaping, it's a Catch 22. Ask and risk a negative policy being put in place, or don't ask and stick to stealth vaping and/or the smoke shed

I do a mix of stealth vaping and openly vaping in safe areas, if I do get asked what I'm doing I shall tell them that I've been asked to trial a new type of inhaler.

I just wondered if they were worried that people are using devices that look like cigarettes, as it may concern others. I would go to them with your most uncigalike device and check that they mean this as well.

In our place you must go to the smoking shelter - is this not forcing non-smokers to passively smoke - surely that's not right either????
