In our place you must go to the smoking shelter - is this not forcing non-smokers to passively smoke - surely that's not right either???? It's not forcing you to do anything - your choice whether you go there or not. Quite right - hadn't thought if it that way!

I attended an after-hours Team meeting at our offices a few days ago. As most of the Team smoke, and one vapes, I asked their permission before vaping during the meeting. My Vamo ended up being passed around (I had a few spare driptips!) and postponed the 'fag break' by over an hour, and I think I may have a few converts to vaping - or did they just like the taste of my VC? As I am a teacher, vaping at work is a complete non-starter. I am peripatetic, travelling between schools, so vaping in my (lease) car is perfectly OK however, and not breaking any no-smoking regulations, AFAIA. I'm certain that if I asked about vaping in the office that I would be refused, on the usual 'it looks as though you are smoking', 'don't want to annoy other office staff' sort of thing, which I am quite happy with. As I have always stated, we do not have a legal right to vape whenever and wherever we want to - I am quite happy to vape outside if that's what is required. The case at the start of this post was an exception as I was with friends, and if one of them had objected, I would have put the vapestick away, and waited until the 'fag break' with the others. Who knows, as public interest, knowledge and ultimately disinterest becomes more widespread, we may be able to argue a stronger case, but until such time I'll join the filthy smoking classes outside! Andy

I am retired now so I do vape in the house and in my workshop, but where I worked for 27 years, had I still been there there would only have been a couple of areas that I could have vaped outside and not at all inside. However 95% of the total area of where I worked, I would not have been allowed to even carry a vaping device, let alone use it.
Nothing to do with the act of vaping but simply to do with the battery part of the device. And I imagine that in a number businesses, the battery would be considered as a dangerous object.

I vape in work. My supervisor knows I do and is happy with it as it means I am staying at my desk and not heading out the door for 5 or 10 mins every 2 hours (or less as I was). However I do not vape when anyone else is in my office. When my boss is in I just vape when he walks out to go get coffee or whatever and if its a day that there are lots of people about I will go out with the smokers to catch up on the gossip. I dont vape in canteen and dont advertise the fact that I vape in the office although the smokers know I am vaping rather than smoking. The company definatly get a lot more productivity from me now that I am vaping. I would have never admitted this when I was smoking.

Despite the fact that my boss is now a grateful vaper (although he only ever smoked/vapes in the evening) I do still go outside to vape.
Firstly because some juices do leave a bit of an odour behind - not so much the dessert/sweet flavours I'm onto nowadays but the cherry pipe I made the mistake of vaping at my desk for a few days when I got into e-cigs certainly left a lingering musty pipe baccy smell.
Secondly because he doesn't like the idea of me vaping in the office when there are potentially clients coming in.
He also found that the second hand vapour can leave a bit of a dry sensation at the back of his throat and suspects it has caused him a few headaches (the 5 others don't, strangely enough).
Honestly, I don't mind going out for a vape. It's an aspect of smoking that I always liked - it's the perfect excuse to stretch my legs for a few minutes and clear my mind. I'm sure that alone increases my productivity (however I do go out more often to vape than I used to go out for a smoke).

Its all down to the companies rules and legislations if there against vaping, then im sad to say you can get fired doing so. so companies allow this but not all. i work in a e-cig shop so i get too

Starbug I think as more and more companies are asked the question by their employees, more and more will take the safe route by saying 'no' unfortunately. As with all things vaping, it's a Catch 22. Ask and risk a negative policy being put in place, or don't ask and stick to stealth vaping and/or the smoke shed This is very true. It's starting to brew at our place now, for months no one cared because it was just me, now I'm one of four or five. One of those has taken to vaping a bit obnoxiously in an inappropriate place which is starting to gather some ire so I wouldn't be surprised if we get a judgement handed down soon because the directors hand will be forced by complaints. Not hard to guess what the judgement will be

I discussed this recently on the 'members board'!
I'm quite sure my organisation will now issue 'a policy' ! that's fine by me, everyone will then know where they stand although when I'm alone I'll still vape, so makes no difference to me!

My boss at work has said I can vape in the dining room (which is the break room) although company policy is no vaping anywhere in our shops, front or back of house.
I don't think the shop manager is aware of the policy and haven't taken her up on vaping inside just incase it causes a stir. But I could play ingnorant and say I havent seen the change in policy.

Officially I don't vape at work but then my desk is hidden away in a distant place so I could get away with it. Although I work for a large nationwide company there is nothing at all on our work intranet about vaping so I did at my desk for around 2-3 months then all of a sudden an email went round ruling it the same as smoking. Apparently the same thing has happened in other offices when other people vaped there, my suspicion is that they allow it until someone complains then issue a ban in that building.
