Dear ****** Thank you for your letter, its great to hear another e-cigarettes success story. Our office will be monitoring the Tobacco Directive and raising when possible concerns similar to your own. Though the proposed legislation does not currently talk of a ban, we are extremely worried about the tone this document takes, when it states that nicotine containing products exceeding 4 mg per ml should be accessed as medicinal products. This will mean a weight of extra regulation that we believe will make e-cigarettes (in acceptable strengths) much more difficult for smokers to get hold of than cigarettes, making the transition away from smoked tobacco more difficult. I know Mr Helmer thinks that it becomes somewhat ridiculous that the we might regulate every "chemical" product that merely contains ingredients, such as glycerin, that we have been safely ingesting for a long time. He will certainly be unsupportive of this legislation in its current form. However, we do fear that the UKIP vote is often outnumbered by those within the EU who continue to push for more overarching European regulation and 'nanny-state' policies that limit the freedom of choice of the individual. This is why UKIP have determined that the only way to stop the UK from being subjected to this kind of legislation is for the UK to take back control by opting out of the EU. For your interest, the legislation's progress through Parliament is currently at a very early stage, as the report has only just been published in December, and so it will not be voted on for many months-- indeed I have just seen that they have predicted November. You can track its progress via the document's procedure file: www.europarl.europa.eu/oeil/popups/ficheprocedure.do?reference=2012/0366(COD)&l=en. Best regards, Laura Clapp Stagiaire to Roger Helmer MEP United Kingdom Independence Party ?East Midlands Region, United Kingdom ?European Parliament

UKIP are safe to oppose it, not too many of them though (which is probably just as well, as it goes)

It does seem to me that if the vote for the MEP's is going to be in November, then we need another round of letter writing at that time, just to remind MEP's which way to vote.
