New toy, first RBA.

I tightly rolled the supplied mesh and tempered it with a zippo.
I quickly ran out of the wire that came with this without getting a working coil.
Some new wire arrived today, all nichrome in .15, .20 and .25.

My first few attempts in all sizes registered at 1.5 ohms, but quickly dropped below the magic 1.2 which my VAMO supports
I finally worked out I was coiling too tight around my wick, so I coiled some .25 around a 3mm drill bit, remove the drill and dry burned; bingo! coil was stable at 1.8 with no hotspots.

I replaced the wick, juiced up and she's vaping away nicely, coil has settled in at 1.6 on the VAMO

I can stop squinting now, I think this would be much easier with a magnifier.
Pretty simple once you get the hang of it...

ive been having probs on and off for weeks have you had any dry hits yet its just your coils look a little slack ?

coils do look a little slack mate, can see daylight through a few.

Not sure if I'm right, but I don't know if thats a problem, infact I think its possibly desireable, I wrap mine quite loose and they seem to work quite well, it is the fluid not the wick that we want to heat up to create vapour.

Surprised that the 8 wraps works though, I only use 4!

i agree but the liquid as to touch the coils to be vapourised, it can't do that if there's a gap between the wick and coil. The parts that are touching the wick will be doing all the work and the parts that aren't doing virtually nothing.

I think it is too loose, vape could be better, but it is tricky to tighten without shorting it
Bigger problem is my air hole is too big, very airy draw

I only had 2.5 and 3.0 drill bits, 2.5 was too small, 3.0 was too big, but at least it worked and I could get my wick through it.

I read on one post someone used a 1/16th? Isn't that closer to 1.5mm?

I will have to get a pack of drills with sizes in between and try again.
Got more mesh and some kanthal ribbon on its way...

yes the draw is very airy  even more so on the lava tube with its floating center point  i believe the 1/16th drill bit was mentioned some where regarding the aga t and the air hole being to small so they drill the hole bigger in the top cap

as for the drill bit for wraping a coil i think i used a 3.0 and adjusted the mesh to suet

your coil looks ok for the first 6 coils just the last 2 look slack in fact i think its your wick getting thinner at the top, looking closely it also looks like the top coil is burning its greyer than the next 3 and the bottom 3 or 4 are very shiny no carbon are they even glowing ?
did you burn the kanthal with w lighter before warping ?

I am confused..The draw on these atty's is dictated by the size of the airhole in the top cap..

Nothing to do with the bottom end of the atty or which mod or what kind of pin it sits on..

I did oxidise the nichrome before coiling it, it makes it much easier to handle, the wick has now been pulled up a bit and cut to remove the taper seen in the pic. It's much better now, but still a little loose, not bad for a noob with bad eyesight!

The airflow is totally controlled by the hole in the topcap, there is no airway through the central tube, if I block the top air hole, I can't suck any air at all from the driptip. I just need to find a simple way to narrow this hole, might even block it and drill a new one.

You could fill the hole with some epoxy then drill a smaller hole through once dried.

glad to hear trimming the wick helped i did take a pic of mine will upload tomorrow as cant remember my log in just now

finally took a pic of mine been running this wick over a week but re raped the coil about 4 times
still get dry hits if i vape over 3.8 volts  5 raps of 0.20 kanthal comes out at 1.8 ohms

I use to wick the AGA rather flat Kanthal 0,5 x0, 1 mm 7 or 8 wicks is 2,0-2,2 Ohms. This is not as susceptible to burn out at hot spots. And most important, it brings great steaming and super flash.
