Just received a letter via my mp from department of health , the final paragraph reads
" The government will be reviewing the proposals in the draft tobacco products directive (TPD) carefully ,with the ongoing work of the MHRA in mind. The TPD proposals will be discussed by the member states and by the European parliament and will be subject to change during this process. This means that the legislation is unlikely to be adopted before 2014 or to come into effect before 2015-2016"
will try getting the rest up later

It seems likely to be three years after it goes into law before they'd have to stop selling the stuff. Maybe by then we'll have enough users and data to get them to change their minds. Not that that seem to have helped snus.
