Anyone noticed any changes when trying to select the Gift option in paypal. My paypal would only let me select, Pay for goods or send to a friend.

There is a 'gotcha' though. Unless your Paypal account is funded via your bank account you'll attract charges. Watch for the penultimate screen. It's pretty much the same as the old system.

I changed mine to use direct bank transfers just because of the charges I was getting using my card for paypal gift, now they wont let me change it back again and customer support say it's impossible to change back, I know that can't be right and they just prefer direct access.

I have stated on previous posts that Paypal are in business to make money for their shareholders, and are "not" a money transfer facility. Originally set up as branch of eBay, to make payments easier for their users with no charges. Once expanded their services to others they after a period decided to make charges for this facility.(making more profits) Hence if you have not been charged, you have been very lucky, as now all money transfers will incur the charges of approx 4% of the transfer value. So in future add 4% to your selling price so that you receive the correct monies.

Mine is funded from my "only use for online purchases" credit card. does that mean it will attract charges ? Yes it will. If funded via a credit card and ,rather oddly, a debit card you're charged, via a bank transfer you're not.

could the card credit or debit charge be because you are offered protection by the card via that method over x amount and as paypal dont give protection on gifts this would cause them hassle so there steering you away from it. not sure if this also applies but the law changed yesterday (i think) stopping most transactions via cards from being chargeable other than to cover costs, debit cards being 20p and credit cards no more than 2% (i think).
