i love gardening , if those currant bushes have been in a greenhouse you might want to harden them off before planting out , a cold spell will damage the new growth. im just starting to see new growth on my carnivorous plants , cant wait to see if they flower this year

Just been reading your other thread Spikey, regarding hoarding and why just have one... and now this! How often do you have to move to a bigger house.

I discovered a gooseberry bush in our garden 2 years ago - I have no idea where it came from, 'cos I didn't plant it, and it wasn't there a few years back! My plan for this year is to make wine from the berries. Good luck with your bushes (why does that sound so wrong? lol).
Just in from planting my first seeds of the year - which are courgettes. I was intending to plant chillis, but discovered that I forgot to buy chilli seeds, which made it a bit difficult really. Must get some this week! If the weather holds up over the weekend I'm planning to get some radishes, lettuces , beans and cucumber started off - I love the hopeful feeling at this time of year which, sadly, is often followed by disappointment as things fail to germinate/get blown into the next county/dug up by cats etc. Lettuces are fairly foolproof though!

its the fresh new growth and buds that are at risk , you could get some horticultural fleece to pop over them if a frost is forecast or you could just leave them in the pots and bring them into the house every night for a week just to harden them off

I hope you have more luck with fruit than I do,I have to net everything to stand a chance of a crop otherwise the wild birds have everyone strawberries redcurrents, blackcurrents and the goosegogs.I use an old gazzebo frame with scaffold mesh, keeps the chucks out aswell!

@spikeyfridge, keep the chooks away from the blackcurrants Can't vouch for gooseberrys or redcurrants & I don't actually know how much damage the sheep did - but the chooks WILL do more Our blackcurrant don't ever get to the growing or fruiting stage - the girls keep them stripped back to twigs all year round

@spikeyfridge do you like gooseberries? I bought a gooseberry bush a couple of weeks or so ago from Aldi. Not put it out yet in case we get a frost and kills the little buds.

You're not in reality going to get much of a crop from any fruit bushes planted this year anyway, next year is when you might get some.
If they are all of small size (and I'm guessing they are) then plant them out, if a really cold night is coming then just put a bucket over them.
Chickens will eat everything they can, in case you haven't had them before, if you want to grow fruit and veg, they have to be kept in a run away from your stuff if you want to harvest anything, saying that, my chickens have mostly a free run of the garden in winter, but not in spring and summer!

I remember i built a great big Igloo to grow runner beans on, i put too many runner bean seeds and the thing grew out of control, think i ended up with at least over a 1,000 runner beans
