Hi All, new member but a lurker for a while, was pointed this way by members on here that are also members of MSE.
I have read most threads in here and plumped for the VE Riva 1100 Deluxe Kit from vaperscape with the voucher from the board. I also got 30ml of Benson and 30ml of RY4 18mg both. Very happy but am struggling in one area. I have filled one cartomiser with the Benson but when I take a drag it seems to hard and harsh to take down like a conventional cigarette. I have searched the net and the general response is that the smoke is not as thin as a cigarette and difficult to get used to. The taste as well is of dry ice like you would get in a nightclub. I filled another cartomiser with the RY4 but the taste is exactly the same, like dry ice, light hint of strawberry like.
Am I doing something wrong? I would have thought the two would be distinctly different in taste. Also any techniques to hold the drag down? I have taken less of a drag but still the same, coughing and coughing.
Just incase it makes a difference I put the juice in the cartomiser, cleared it out and left to stand for 5-10 mins

I like to bring the vape into my mouth and then inhale down to my lungs, where as when smoking I used to just draw on a fag and take it straight down if that makes sense?

Thanks Romelee, the bit I missed was to put the cone on My chest is not what it used to be so any harsh drag makes me cough.

It is still too strong and I cough a few times with it. I at the minute vape into my mouth but then breath in through my nose and seem to get something down into my lungs but nothing in comparison to a cigarette, not sure about that as a technique. I am normally a Embassy No 1 smoker 30/40 a day and my lungs can handle it (well they cant but you know what I mean)

Have a look at post 11 on this thread allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/2349It is important to get the first fill of a cartomiser right, to make sure the wadding is properly soaked with e-juice. Start with small draws. I think people expect e-cigs to be a lot milder than ciggies so take really big draws to begin with! It is a lot of trial and error at first. Try different e-juices, buy small sample bottles just now. e-juice is made up of nicotine PG and VG. Higher PG = more throat hit, so perhaps trying some juices that have a higer VG content will help and keep asking questions

Hi Keyser666, And welcome I inhale then take another puff at the same time, on the second inhale I hold it in my lungs for a couple of seconds then exhale.

Hello & welcome Keyser Firstly, do make sure the cartomiser is well filled & secondly, try taking the vapour into your mouth & holding it there for a few seconds before taking it back.

Might be a bit on the high side if your struggling to not cough? I started on 24 but found this way to harsh, 18mg is more my level and in now trying to gradually reduce it right down to zero over the next year or two. Just a thought.

Doing the small draws at the minute, so will persevere

I went with 18mg after reading other advice based on certain brand of cigarettes and volume of cigarettes in the normal day

Hi Keyser,
The amount of vapour will depend on the device used, but I reckon most people new to e-cigs will find the vapour a bit harsh at first. Less or more than tobacco is tricky to call, as they are not the same. Unless I've forgotten, I think I changed from inhaling direct to inhaling mouth first within 24 hours. Maybe experiment with your inhaling style.
