They are the sweeteners used in drinks like Pepsi max and diet coke. I've had Aspartame poisoning from drinking Pepsi max every day for 4 years, I now only drink coffee and water and the symptoms are slowly getting better.

Thanks Collie.
Strange though. I have never had a cup of tea in my life and only ever drank one cup of coffee once a month. None this year so far.
I do however drink at least two litres of Pepsi Max a day and have done for at least 16 years now. This is now supplimented with 2 litres of Sparkling Water a day.
Cannot say I have ever been up nor down by what I drink.

Just to make it clear (and then return to the O.P.) Aspartame is declared safe for use by the US FDA. If I drink them they make me ill, and thirsty and give me a headache and ruin my sense of taste. But, I don't trust the US FDA. Sounds scarily familiar really.....money, tobacco, pharma..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_controversy

Medically, what is good for the goose, is not necessarily good for the gander.

Bizarre late night suggestion: if your taste buds don't seem to be working, try curling your tongue somewhere different as you vape. Curl it to the side to get a more bitter taste. Curl it up and the vapour may find some taste buds that haven't been destroyed by all those years of smoking.

Sounds scarily familiar really.....money, tobacco, pharma..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame_controversyI had it confirmed by blood tests, they don't call it poisoning they called it toxicity I was drinking one cup of coffee in a morning and then Pepsi Max all day and nothing else. Some people are more sensitive to it than others and I know of another friend who had it too. My symptoms were dizziness for no reason, nausea, tiredness, hot spots on my face and headaches lasting for 2-3 weeks at a time. Since i've ditched the Pepsi Max I feel a million times better and it's the feeling better that has spurred me into switching to vaping, it's made me very very aware of what i'm putting into my body.

Mine changed a lot in the early days. Also, drinking anything with Aspartame or Acesulfame K is a recipe for disaster. What is Aspartame or Acesulfame K? An artificial low cal sweetner like Saccharine or Stevia used in lots of fizzy drinks. I prefer it to saccharine as saccharine coats my tongue and I cannot get rid of the sweet taste.

Thanks for all the answers on the sweetners. It is not something I have ever given more than a passing glance at. If there is no Horse Meat or the like in it, then it is safe for me to drink. Far better than the 2 litres of Coca Cola that I used to consume, many moons ago.

I gave up all sweeteners in food and drink last August, so vaping is the only way I get sweetness at the moment - but I do like a sweet vape Today my tastebuds are more than back to normal, it's like I'm hypertasting or something. I've finally pinned down what Wingnut's Wibble tastes of - it's those skimmed milk chocolate drinks you get in the chilled cabinet. Pchela's Poison is really coming through strongly today, can taste every wafery, chocolately, mochary bit of it. Yum. Also Jasmine is pretty good today, and Apple Pie is as wonderful as it's ever been Ah, it's good to have my tongue back!

I made the mistake of going for a curry about 3 weeks in. Bloody hell! nearly died.... have had to downgrade my curry strength now, no more super-hot stuff So hows your vaping going Dave , I recall you wanted to start off with some alcoholic liquids when you started . Money has taken it's inevitable toll, I discovered i quite liked Vapourtine's pina colada, discovered that all coffee flavours are revolting, and kept going back to tobacco flavours (cos you need them when you're hanging out with smokers all the time) now just buy 50ml of air-cured from vapology a month, and have a bottle of dekang mint on the side for when i fancy a change. I still haven't broken even on the stinky savings yet, and today I am down to one T3, as my spare head for it popped yesterday, and I only have 2 leaky CE4s on the side for emergencies. Had to hit the overdraft to order a couple of clearos from Vapeescape this morning, so should be ok. But damn this gets pricey. Sticking at it though, should level out soon. Apologies for derail, as you were all.

I guess my taste buds have had a right battering through 50 years of cigarettes and so flavours like Apple Pie, all I taste is Pie. Rhubarb Crumble, all I get is Crumble. Chocolate and any flavours that have cream, all I get is a disgusting gunge in my mouth.
Thankfully there are flavours that do come through as decent tastes and these are all straight forward fruit e-juice, like Apple, Peach and Lemon.
I envy those members that can tell the subtle flavours of mixed e-juices. But thankfully there are enough straight flavours to keep me happily vaping for the foreseeable future.
