I like to wind the wick before fitting the wick to the deck, that way it has a chance to relax a bit and make itself a snug rather than tight fit. I do the same Mark. It's a damned sight easier to wind the coil and keep the tension the same in your fingers than it is trying to dodge the center post each time. Then tweak it for height when it's all fitted.

I really wouldn't get too hung up on wick details. The important thing is it being a slack fit in the hole, so that you can postion it centrally when you hook up the coil. If the coils are a nice touching but not holding fit then everything else is going to work reasonably well. Things like mesh density and centre holes is fine tuning once you can get the coil firing perfect.

I'd agree with you, but the guy in the video above states that the more carbon (which is effectively what you are doing) you put on the wick, the less well it will suck up juice by capillary action, you're blocking the holes which make it work. But that's the problem, capillary action doesn't want holes it needs something it can 'cling' onto (ie. flat sides). I thought the holes were the things that capillary action needed to climb?

Kirrie...........make sure also, that the centre post is making contact with the battery.Give it a little push down from the top.

Does anyone have a link to a decent video/guide of how to set one of these up? Been trying for the best part of 3 hours to get it up and running. Everytime I think I've made a decent coil, slap it on the vamo and get a stupidly low resistance of like 0.2ohms. Never used a genesis type atty so a complete guide including making a mesh wick would be great. If not look for an AGA-S and DID clone on the classies soon! That low a resistance either means: 1. The wick is shorting. Remove the wick leaving the coil in place and see what the resistance is. If it is ok then wick is shorting and needs some attention. 2. The center post insulators are damaged. Remove the coil and test the resistance. If it is open circuit (9.99 ohm or OP) then it's fine. If it is reading "Low Load" then the atty center post is shorting.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys, going to have another crack at it sometime over the weekend. Failing that has anyone tried a silica wick in one with any success? I love the look of the aga-s and want to get it vaping one way or another.

I've been vaping for 6 months, & using ss mesh wicks (in an AgaT) for about 4 months. Like others have said you are probably getting a short somewhere. I find the real trick is to oxidise the wick properly to stop it from conducting electricity. It's not carbon you are trying to get on it. You need to get your wick glowing cherry red with a blow torch. I found a lighter simply isnt hot enough & just covers it in soot, which while this may have a similar effect its just not as good. I dont quench it in water, I dont burn juice on it. Roll your wick as in that 1st video, until you have it the right size for the hole You dont want it rolled to tightly or too loosely, I do it around a pin. I make mine to be able to only just go in the hole, not loose in the hole. Once you've made your wick give it a good blowtorching, get it glowing cherry red all over. You cant 'over oxidise' it. Remove the wick, & place a drill bit or some other round rod into the hole that only just fits it (not loose). Wrap your coil around this. Space the coils out evenly. The most likely place to get a hotspot is the top & then the bottom. I make sure the bottom of the coil where it comes from the negative screw is touching the metal of the tank, & I even try & push it into the hole everso slightly. To get rid of the top hotspot I use a small washer. Edit (for clarity) now remove the drill bit when you've wrapped your coil & done up the nuts screws etc. Once you're done fire it a few times it should be glowing nice & evenly. Then just put your wick carefully into the hole. Pic showing washer to get rid of top hotspot Drill bit method.
