It's an SVD and the threads are very scratchy.
I might try the tubes in an ultrasonic cleaner and then use a little vaseline.

Something I learnt from blakey is that greasing threads can result in dirt accumulating in them. If the mod is made from decent material (i.e. stainless steel), the threads should wear in over time.
