Is it possible to get a tap and die set capable of making a thread inside metal tubes, I mean tubes that are big enough to house a battery? And if so are threads all common sizes or do they vary a lot?

Lee, If you're looking to match atty threads, then at a guess, I'd say the were metric threads. There is quite a bit of variation in thread types though. You'd need to match the diameter and pitch of the thread. I'd start with metric options i.e. M6, M8, M9, M10 etc. Sean

Thanks for the link raggy and for the pointers Sean, lots of homework for me to do. I'm starting on the basics, trying to come up with something to house a battery that will connect to attties.

Thanks for that verey, I think my father in law may have a set in his garage I can 'borrow.' If not that link may come in handy.
