Oooo nice, I was just thinking about making a round solid wood mod and realised I needed a lathe I'm not sure it's worth the outlay just for that! What are you planning on using yours for? My latest acquisition www.cottandco.com/lots/elliott-progress-no1-pedestal-drill-1 Not this exact one. But almost the same! Nice one, drill mill next on the list for me mate. Very expensive! Very useful if you need one as well. Not sure I could justify a mill atm as my good mate has one and he makes me anything I want, but in time My new drill has already become indispensable, I used it alot to build a F2K trebuchet for my daughters school fete catapult competition, I'll post up a video (in a day or 2) of it working if you are interested. The fete is this weekend and weather permitting, I intend to win

All depends Womble on what you want to do on it, how much space you have for one, how much you want to spend on one. Not sure yet, small to medium metal work and some sorts of wood work, will have loads of space soon *, can't afford to spend anything atm, but will probably be on the lookout for a decent 2nd hand machine. Like the drill, I prefer to buy decent heavier stuff 2nd hand, which should be cheaper, or as cheap as modern stuff, but longer lasting. Although to be fair, I have no idea how this works with lathes. I trained on very heavy old machines as an apprentice in the 80's, but have had little to do with them since. *I'm in the process on planning a wooden workshop to be built in the garden, I plan to use alot of materials I already have to build it, but it will still take a decent outlay to get it the way I want, so while I'll have lots of space, I won't have any money to buy any new kit Your new selfbuilt workshop will have to have a very strong floor to support all the intended weight your going to put into it. workshop/sheds are not as cheap as you might first think to build if done to a good standard.

No that's right, where I intend to put the heavy weights, I will put a solid floor of paving slabs/or something solid, holding up the floor. I'm still working on the design and I don't want to steal the thread to put it here. But I'm glad you know about it, as I was intending to put a list of materials I am planning to use on a thread and get opinions on them. I also intend to leave a good gap under it, so I can reinforce it at places if I decide to add new equipment. Have you built a workshop? Because that would be brilliant experience that would help me.

Nice one, drill mill next on the list for me mate. A drill mill ,, NO NO NO, Don't do it. It will be used for light work only... there is no need for me to have a pedestal drill or anything similar.

I don't have one in mind yet, just something I think I may need next. Just for light accurate work more than anything.
