Been reading up abut these types of lathes and the "Pulsing" and this is what I found. The speed control system forms a closed loop feedback system and as the motor speed falls under load the control system senses this and ups the voltage. hence current/power, to the motor in order to restore the speed.

Got the lathe set up last night and there's a fault on the control board, looks like it's had a bang on the head stock/control board so it's got to go back...

Nice one, drill mill next on the list for me mate. A drill mill ,, NO NO NO, Don't do it. Hey... I used to build them back in the 90's. A good knee type mill with a 90 degree attatchment will do quite a bit. I wish I had a MkIV, they were pretty tough. Our ATC Crusaders were not so robust though, this was mainly due to the CNC control.

Well the replacement arrived today, it's living happily on the workbench I made for it. Turned some acrylic just to test and all seems well. Now to dream up my ideal mod and atty. Not decided what to get about drill mill, will most likely get a small drill press in the end. Made room on the bench for it and it's own socket so it'd be rude not to buy one now..

Threading, that's the thing to master. Not sure what else you would need for it tho.

Hi guys great post,I had the same idea a few months ago so I went out and bought myself a little myford lathe. At the moment I'm just watching loads of DVDs ect to get to grips with the fundamentals of the many many things you can make on these things.I downloaded a 5dvd set of an American guy who goes through more or less everything you need to know on one of these things, eventually I intend making all my own drip tips, carts ect
But it can be a very expensive hobby icon_shoppingm
