Did you or Mike ever work for Homechoice or Tiscali, or were you TalkTalk only? Cos you might have been involved in the Homechoice>Tiscali migration fiasco Or the Tiscali>TalkTalk "better" new billing system scam Nah, my broadband has always been angelic compared to some. scylla

No we were always TalkTalk, I did faults and Mike did Broadband. I left after having Robyn and Mike moved up to the IT department. I remember them taking over Tiscali but it didn't involve us as we were on a different project at the time, suprisingly that particular project the s**t hit the fan too. TalkTalk are great at implementing stuff and then letting the staff deal with the backlash because nobody tested it properly!!

We used to dread being dragged into meetings because we knew it was a "Great news we have this fantastic new idea...." Which translated as "Someone came up with this in a brainstorm so we set someone on it and coz it cost us so much we are implementing it even though it probably doesn't work, oh and we will train you on it 6 months after you have started working on it just so we can tick our boxes"

Haha, never thought of doing that. If I hear of anymore "brainwaves" that they have I will go and do that!

Just thinking - complaints and problems in the forums have been noticeable by their absence lately scylla

Hi Hanow
Internet speed depends on your service supplier and for BT is how far away you are from BT exchange the closer the better. However a lot of things comes into play such as how old is your computer higher the speck the better. And also are you wireless or is your modem ( hard wired ) connected straight into your computer. If you use wireless try and put your router as high as you can with nothing blocking its path, usually when a supplier says 20 meg often find you only have 6 meg if fibre optic then you will get in megs what they advertise.

BT are rubbish - they set you up in the most insecure way possible.
Things you must do are:
i) change the admin password from the default 'admin'. Use something you can remember, write it down somewhere you can find it again if you need to (I do, cos I'm rubbish at remembering passwords I don't use often).
ii) turn off BTFON
iii) turn off Wi-Fi if you don't use it. If you do use it make sure it is encrypted using WPA or WPA2 You will need to tell your laptop/iPhone/toaster/whatever to use the same security too.
iv) optional but complex, setup the list of devices to only allow your kit to talk to wifi
The way to do this depends on which homehub you have, but if you log in (http://bthomehub.home), the help pages are pretty good and should tell you how to do it properly.
The above should prevent peeps hijacking your connection and/or taking over your home hub altogether.

We're with Sky unlimited, £10 a month if you've got Sky TV. It's very slow as we're 3 miles from the exchange. Fibre optic would be so much better, but it's too pricey

I'm with sky for everything and find them excellent. Run about 6 devices over our broadband and it's faster than BT. I suppose it depends where your based. Nats x
