Cleaning mucky threads

... no, nothing to do with moderators censoring blue comments from topics! Rather, an amalgam of ideas to get rid of the goo that collects on carto wicks after a while.

I've tried the following with mixed success using mostly Vivi Novas :

- dismantle the wick and rinse it out under a warm (not too hot) tap, then pad off with loo roll
- as above, but dry off with a hair dryer
- rebuild the carto with wick in place but don't put any juice in, and apply current until the smoke burns off and the wick just starts to glow red

Other folk are using technology to do this I understand, using ultrasound devices (used to clean lab equipment and such?). Being a bit of geek I'd love to try that. Are there any risks involved?

Generally, what do you find the best way to clean the gunk off a wick, and how many cleanings can it go through before it's time to rethread?

I soak in a denture cleaning tablet, rinse, then leave on top of a radiator until I remember totally dry,

then refill and vape

I chuck them in vodka overnight, let them dry, then dry-burn the crud off. Then when that no longer works, throw them away. I'd like to be able to re-wick them, but I'm too cack-handed and dithery.

I re-wick my nova heads weekly, don't like dry burning. Wick/wire is cheap enough and it only takes a minute or two to do.

I put mine in a ultrasonic cleaner haven't had any problems as of yet but one tip i can recommend DO NOT put a dash of washing up liquid in only use plain water my tank and wick tasted foul but the tank and wick turned out ok after i put them back in the sonic cleaner and done about 3 cleaning cycles only loss was a couple of mls of ejuice here is the one i bought www.amazon.co.uk/JPL-7000-Ultrasonic-Cleaner-accessories/dp/B00112B0U0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375091093&sr=8-1&keywords=ultrasonic+cleaner it works well on jewellery too with a dash of washing up liquid in the water, quite a few forum members on this forum also use them for steeping their ejuice

Make a carto cleaner by supergluing a carto condom with the bottom punched out, to a syringe..You can then use high pressure hot water to clean the gunk if needs must.

I have used it with very good success when I was using cartos.
