Skype and Viber and apps of it's ilk negate the argument of being able to call/message your frequently called contacts for free on any platform.
I don't hate the iphone. I just find that a dual sim phone on an Android platform suits my needs better and represents better value for money.
Horses for courses.
There are rabid fans of both platforms and it is quite amusing to sit back read their comments as both do their job quite well.

Horses for courses. There are rabid fans of both platforms and it is quite amusing to sit back read their comments as both do their job quite well. My point exactly. Having seen and read SO many apple v android arguments I honestly expected there to be a massive difference between the two. I have been an apple fan for years. Have had numerous iPhones so thought reading the arguments android would be massively different. Yes, at base level it is. But for your average Joe I simply do not understand the argument. Having both right here in my hand they are both fantastically capable smart phones. You can call, txt, browse, check email, listen to music, watch tv, check stocks, check your social media should you want to. All in a nice pocket sized package. With a nice screen and plenty of apps to pick and chose from. I wouldn't say one was more capable than the other. They both do everything I need and want a phone to do. So for me the decision on which to keep with come down to personal preference re how it looks and every day usability based on how I use my phone. Pro for me with apple is the Genius Bar. No having to send my phone away for repair should it need it. Pro with android is the ability to tinker, something I've always enjoyed doing with my tech. As macca says. Horses for courses. To each their own. But why people argue over it is absolutely beyond me.

So for me, having both phones in my hand. Jailbroken iPhone 5 and a rooted Nexus 4. I honestly, truly don't see how one is 'more open' than the other. But I assume I'm missing something as its posted over and over. You're not missing anything...well, not much. Your post explains itself. If you jailbreak your iPhone, you will void your warranty. While the jailbreaking process was ruled legal in 2010, Apple was very clear that doing so voids your warranty. This means that you could potentially lose out on a warranty fix for an unrelated issue because your iPhone is jailbroken. (That's what apple say, not me). I have an android tablet and my daughter has an ipad. I can put ripped films (that I own) on one, and not on the other. For me, that is priceless. I also have a "rooted" android phone which I needed to root to remove software Orange said they wouldn't remove. (paid-for 3G apps) I also work on a £3,000 apple, which I didn't buy. I don't care what I use. Nothing is perfect. Apple is generally superior to everything else, but you pay for the integrity of the hardware/software. Also, Apple have more money than several of the world's poorest nations. You pays your money and takes your choice.

I put ripped stuff on my iPad all the time (I have ripped all my TV show box sets to a hard drive on my HTPC). AVplayer plays everything I've tried so far.
Size of the nexus is a bit of an adjustment for me right now. Not the height. The width lol. I'm used to using the phone with one hand. So I don't know if I'll decide the nexus is too big for me. Since phablets aren't my taste.
Friend who went from the iPhone to the S3 said it took her a week or so to get used to it. Part of me is wishing I'd gone for the S4 mini when it's released as the screen is a bit smaller.

Yeah. My iPad isn't jail broken. You have to use either iTunes or disk aid. but you do just drag and drop.
I use disk aid. Open it. Click av player and drag and drop the files I want Into there. Playes avi. Mkv. Mp4. Divx. Everything I've tried so far. The app is still free on the App Store I believe.

I've gone in the opposite direction to many it seems, from Android to Apple. I had been hounded by Apple to install their software whenever I wanted to look at a cover disk or shareware, and to be honest it really pee'd me off with the company so much I started to avoid all their products. Personally I actually loved the earlier windows platforms for their configurability, and I still have an HTC Artemis (Xda Orbit) running 6.5 that I use as a backup GPS device. The Android "revolution" was cracking to start with, but with the speed of updates to the operating system and inevitable cooked roms it just started to make too much "not work". Every time Android updates to a new crazy named version, too many "Official" apps that I use won't work. SkyGo for example will not work on a rooted device (or it wouldn't 6 months ago) and I NEED something to watch at work I bought an iPhone5 last year, never have an issue with app's crashing, and everything just works as it should. Apple get their updates long before Android do, for me it's THAT simple.

djs once you root an android phone you also loose warranty just like you do when you jailbreak an iphone. For apps on iphone you can install apps for free with pp25 or KuaiYong without even being jailbroken as for iTunes alternatives you have copytrans or ifunbox to name a couple

I am an Android fan, I'll admit. I used to own an iPhone 3G and I bought my wife an iPad2 but I have had Android phones for a couple of years and the wife uses Android phones. The 3G was shite when I got rid of it, but the iPad is actually very good build quality which is handy as my wife never uses it (She uses her S3) and our three year old uses the iPad. I use my Note2.
All of my phones have been rooted with custom ROMs, Kernels and Radios apart from the Note. I do sometimes use my Bosses iPhone5 and I find it horrible (screen is waaay too small for me) but I can't knock Apple customer service or the 2nd hand values of their stuff. Planning to get a Nexus 7 later this year for sofa surfing and probably the Note3 next year.
I could never go back to Apple or IOS but that doesn't mean they are bad devices, they are just totally unsuitable for me and what I want from a device.
I also think if my wife can use an S3 fine with one hand I'm quite surprised anyone can find an S3 too big (I can understand why some might find the Note too big though.)
