First, there is no such word as oxidate.
Second, rust is brittle. That's why the mesh becomes brittle on oxidizing.
Oxidizing means a chemical reaction where the iron forms a chemical compound called ferrous oxide. Resistance wires glow hotter than holding a lighter flame to it. Because they are meant to heat up they are extremely resistant to oxidization because of the addition of nickel and chromium.
So those who want to believe mumbo jumbo can carry on believing that flaming "oxidates" the wire.

Have you run a flame over the ceramic cup for a few seconds till it goes red hot, this is maybe where the bunk flavour is coming from. New ceramic can give a soapy taste apologise in advance if this has been done.

Verb 1. oxidate - enter into a combination with oxygen or become converted into an oxide; "This metal oxidizes easily" I have no idea what I have done to annoy you, but a friendly answer would have been fine. End of conversation.

Yeah an online dictionary is very reliable. Let me take a wild guess..The Miriam Webster's with other lovely words such as kolor and skool.
Maybe that's where you get your information about "oxidating" wires by flaming from too. The kind of "oxidating" that causes the wire's resistance to jump up and down and can be wiped away with a cloth. Very reliable information.
Also I heard the flat earth society is looking for members.
