Ok in short I've been trying to make up some wires ready for another shot at rebuilding my nautilus to get rid of the bunk flavour I'm getting , I cut out some sections of .2 kanthal reading at 2.2ohms with the multi meter but then when I flame the wire I measure it again and it won't settle on what ohms the wire is anymore hovering up and down around 4-5ohms if I'm lucky enough to get a reading
:s confused as hell is it normal for the resistance to change after being flamed
I only worked this out after flaming a ready made wire before building the nautilus up to find "no atomiser" Took the wire out and nothing , zilch! It's like it doesn't even exist to the multimeter

When you flame a wire you put a layer of carbon on it - similar to oxidising mesh. Wipe it with a cloth and remove the carbon

Guessing that's whats stopping the current passing between the res and no res wire then? Seems to need a good scraping with the meter pins just wiping it don't seem to do bugger all :s Still reading 4ohms apposed to the 2.2 it was before , what a pain in the arse lol there's always another hurdle

When you flame a wire you do actually oxidise it, just the same as you do with steel mesh. Is the nautilus new stitch?

I just got a nautilus from Vaporbreak and the taste was a bit funky so I stripped it and gave it a 10 minute blast in the ultrasonic cleaner. Going ok now, quite impressed with it.

Oh don't tell me that , ill be devastated if I could have just got the cheap one for half the price lol oops sorry mate, I am pleasantly surprised though. Build quality seemed okay when I took it to bits. I thought the vape might be a bit cool for me, but that small vape chamber seems to keep a bit of heat in the vapour.

Yeah I'm supprised it's quite a warm vape , I thought all the metal would cool it right down , what wick/setup are you using using in yours bud , do you boil or flame your wicks when u build rbas at all?

In the Nautilus I se .236 nickel and .16 nichrome and usually go for about 1.8ohm. For wick I use 3mm silica but at the top I use a 2nd piece of wick just where the coil is so it's double thickness there and it works great, one of the best atty's around I'd say and a decent price compared.

It`s just what came with it, not sure to be honest, only got it yesterday. I dont normaly flame or boil, I only use pre made coils/wicks and make do. UIsually get away with it. Was surprised these are 2 ohms , thought they would be lower. I put it in the ultrasonic for ten minutes with really hot water and it seemed to sort it.

The wire you have must have a lot of machine oil on it from the wire drawing process and this may be getting charred and depositing a layer of burnt oil on your wire.
The wire itself is unaffected except it anneals and becomes softer. These wires are meant to glow when heated. If they oxidise when flaming they will become brittle and fall to bits during use but they don't.
I flame all my wires before coiling to burn off any impurities and anneal them to make coils. I am yet to see any oxidisation or change in resistance. In fact I can and have straightened the wires after substantial use and burnt off impurities and juice residue and with a quick wipe they come out looking new again and have reused them when I am lazy.
Try doing that with an oxidized mesh.

The oxidation is only on the surface, any metal will oxidate when you get it red hot. The oxidation is purely on the surface, it doesnt go through the metal, it is similar to a layer of rust. If you flame kanthal (get it red hot) it will show a blueish tint. That is oxidation. If you cool down the metal too quickly by dipping it in water immediately it will harden, if you let it cool down as slowly as possible it will be softer and more pliable. It doesnt change the resistance by flaming. The wire just becomes more flexible. I have never had wire go brittle and fall to bits. Oxidation is a surface action, a very thin layer on the surface of the wire, where the wire has reacted on the surface with the surrounding oxygen in the air. Oxidation will rub off with pressure, which is why we have difficulties with hot spots etc on steel mesh wicks.

I had that thought while tryin to get to sleep last night lol , what I think ill do later is try wiping the wire down with an alcohol wipe first hopefully if there is any exess oils or something on it hopefully they'll be long gone before I try flaming
