RJ Reynolds, the second largest tobacco company in the USA and owners of the Camel and Pall Mall brands of cigarettes have held a Press Conference to mark the first stage of the launch of their new rechargeable electronic cigarette - the Vuse. They say that they have incorporated new technology into their e-cig product that monitors the heat of the coil more than 2000 times per second and adjusts the power accordingly - in order to provide a consistent and "perfect puff" every time. With the dollars behind their R&D and Marketing, this is going to be a very interesting product - National TV advertising is planned for the USA. Looking forward to trying one out when they come over here. news.yahoo.com/reynolds-american-launching-revamped-e-141924019.html.

Hi Gluggler, and many thanks for bringing this to the attention of the forum. To be honest, I have mixed feelings about this. New technology? I am not too sure about that. To me it sounds like PWM [pulse width modulation] with the addition of a temperature sensor and a feedback system, so it is new in that sense, but I don`t believe that it is a radical step forward compared to any variable voltage device. It also looks there is a choice of two flavours. I suppose that is 100% better than Henry Fords Model T which was available in any colour so long as it was black, and you had two choices, take it or leave it.
The other thing that worries me is the money and power available to Big Tobacco. I am sure that no one objects to BT having a slice of the pie, provided it is won on merit. The problem is that for the best part of a century, they have kind of got used to having the whole pie, and would quite like to continue to do so. And woe betide anyone who gets between them and the pie. Their main tactic is to spend vast amounts on lobbying to ensure that the regulations are so complicated as to be unafordable. Except of course...by them.

I guess the "puff" might be reliable, but have they solved the curse of the pathetic battery run times and the "oh, it only actually does 15 vapes" issue? Still $6 for 2 refills is not so crazy.....are the look-a-likes finally getting the idea that if you sell cartos for £3.99 all you'll do is eventually run out of customers. Not looking in any particular direction.

Remember, this was posted as "News" and not "Great Good News"
It will be a great improvement on the semi-disposable market. The product is aimed at smokers, not vapers.
If a better product is available to smokers and marketed at smokers, how can that be bad?

"While many smokers have tried e-cigarettes, few switch entirely because "the products in the marketplace today just don't meet their expectations," Stephanie Cordisco, president of R.J. Reynolds Vapor Co., said in an interview ahead of the announcement."
Well that's a load of crap for a start!

I've met many people who say they've tried them and they are rubbish. It's your std lookalike they've tried.

Who would not want better devices? It's just can we afford the price?

Who would not want better devices? It's just can we afford the price? By price, do you mean the cost of the article, or the cost to the industry of smaller producers being forced out of the market?

Matt Gluggles. Sorry if my post came across as a bit anal. To some extent I was playing the devil`s advocate. At least it provoked some discussion, which was my aim.

"noted that changes in the marketplace have forced the public health community to wrestle with the idea that some tobacco products, such as electronic cigarettes"
I know that this is the American market, but how many times do we have to say, that ecigs are not tobacco. Unless of course RJ Reynolds are in fact putting tobacco products into their ecigs....
Only time will tell.

And they say it has more nicotine than cigarettes etc etc and think they are all knowledgable just from trying a disposable look-a-like At least that's what they were saying on the Radio Scotland programme this am.... - and Kaye gave them loads of airtime and me hardly any (cos she knew I knew the truth - biased BBC )

There are lots of products in the marketplace now, especially in the US that's why I don't agree with that statement.
