Basic mixing requirements

What do you have in your kit apart from the following?

Nic base
PG - pharma grade
VG - pharma grade
Flavourings
Gloves

Are brown bottles with plastic caps from the chemist OK for storing nic?  My local sells empty 200ml bottles for 70p

What syringes/drippers/pipettes (or anything else) are needed or make life easier?   I will probably be making 2ml samples to try and if I like them, go onto mixing larger batches.

Squeezy or glass bottles for your mixes. I like syringes for accuracy, other people like pipettes - get some of each and find out which you like De-ionised water or vodka for diluting VG. Those brown bottles sound ideal.

I like the soft squeezy plastic bottles as well for my mixes Lemental, they're slightly opaque . . . whereas the clear ones are much harder to squonk, I find anyway.

I was looking to see what you expert mixers use in your laboratories, having gained experience and needs through your own mixing.

To be honest, that's pretty much it! Some labels to go on your bottles and the EMJU calculator, and you're good to go

Measuring cups are quite handy I find Lemental . . . when my larger bottles of Nic Base are near the bottom I pour the liquid into a cup and then draw it up in a syringe.

If you've a friendly Pharmacist they may let you have them for free or just charge you a nominal sum.

But you've covered the basics really with your list. The fun starts when you start experimenting with flavours.

Thanks and love the .gif I started making my wish list of flavours last week and it's growing by the day. Having said that, my virtual list pales in comparison to your behemoth of a collection

I'll read through all the stuff I can here including Grizwald's stuff but I'm sure you can predict I'll be asking for loads more advice here soon!!

Although it's important to remember you're handling potentially harmful substances, it's not that difficult a thing to do. I'd suggest starting out with maybe 5-10 flavours (and not going mental like I did...) and making a few 5ml single-flavour samples to begin with and get used to it and them. Then you can graduate to 2- and 3-flavour mixes as your confidence and experience grow

Good point on the mixing cup, Perps, I have one I should probably use more!

When you receive these put some good quality sellotape over the markings, i bought this: Clicky really sticks well and you won't even notice it being on your syringes.....or you could use clear nail varnish.

Jen, thanks My wish list has already grown to 20 flavourings. Some are similar flavours but different manufacturers. What I did was search for recipes and add those of recipes that I liked. I think you're right; I should be a bit more frugal in my ordering though.

Romelee, thanks I shall pick up some of that tape next time I'm in town. I need to go to Wilkos anyway for some toiletries!

Well, as a word of warning, I have about 120 flavourings and only use about 20 of them on any kind of regular basis

I contend that it was necessary to buy them to find out whether they were any good or not though! I initially thought I'd like bakery flavours and was desperate to recreate a lemon meringue pie. My attempts have all been disastrous (OMG, F'art Meringue! ), and now I'm leaning much more towards fruity concoctions anyway! Super-Shiny's diabetic-coma-inducing sticky toffee pudding will be a rare dessert mix for me

Doesn't Carrie do sampler flavouring packs? They'd be dead good for a beginner

Haha thanks  You should have seen me when I first heard on the news that there was to be an announcement later on today.  Even the most seasoned of magicians wouldn't have noticed me taking my card out of my wallet, it was that quick!  Mixing has been on the agenda for me for the last few weeks and finally I get the kick up the backside to start doing it  Good to know that there's no real point in panicking yet.  A lot can, and hopefully will, happen between now and 2016.
