I want to have a go at making a rebuildable tank attie. I've been pointed in the right direction for the wire, so I just need to find some wick. Any ideas?

I'm also interested in sourcing wire and wick in the UK if anyone has links.

I'm also interested in sourcing wire and wick in the UK if anyone has links. Bulli are the only people who sell pre-made wick material but on ebay you can buy stove seals made from silica which you can buy, you then have to unweave the rope and throw away all the strands that aren't silica. As mentioned above you then wash it and give it a burn to get rid of residue - good use for old lighters you thought you'd never use again. Wire is easy go here on ebay yet again - you gets loads for the money but be careful to pick the wire you want as they sell it in different Ohms per meter ratings.

Thanks Verey No worries, I am going to be buying wire myself at some point when I try to build a genesis. Great idea for a device I think, can't be 100%, which was originally the brainchild of the same people who designed the Bulli atty. Look up info on it at ECF when you get the chance.

Thanks johnnyjames and verey. I've ordered some wire (0.13 and 0.16), as well as some G/F kerosene lamp tubular wick. I'll get some stove seal, too. I'm planning to make something like the French "Clearome" tank - I've managed to build some Map/Arry-style tanks, so this will take it one stage further. An extra "deck" to carry the coil & wick, and some parts from a clearo. So many mods, and so little time! My version of a carto tank, with filler screw, alongside an original Arry tank:

Ah just looked, the clearome is similar to a genesis system but still using silica wick. I assume you also have a lathe to make parts in - I'm a bit jealous now since I'd really love to be able to make parts that I can't readily buy. Lathes are so expensive even for hobby sized ones, sigh.

Thanks verey. I'm pleased with the way the tanks have turned out. I've also made a mini carto tank (16mm diameter for my Riva 510) and a clearo tank. They take a couple of hours to make, and the most expensive parts are the o-rings!
I was fortunate to get my lathe (Cowells CW90) paid for by my employer as part of a re-training grant when I was made redundant 13 years ago. They offered to send me to a career consultant. I said I already knew what I wanted to do (train as a clockmaker), and would they pay for some tools and a distance learning course. They offered me £1500, and I spent most of it on the lathe! It's an excellent machine, but probably a bit OTT for machining plastic parts. Some of the Chinese hobby lathes are pretty good, I believe, or a Unimat. A wise investment for your mod business - go for it!

Yes Lee, for most mod purposes - mainly plastics, those would work fine. Still out of my price range though. My plan lathe wise is to get a horizontal drill clamp/stand and a mains powered drill with a low speed gearbox (older models have lower speeds). I bolt the stand down, attach the drill, then have a centre spindle to be put in the chuck.. The spindle will be made from an old metal rod of some sort that has bolt threads along it's length so I can clamp tight to plastic rods that have had a hole drilled all the way through. An added touch would be a second stand with just a chuck on it to hold the other end of the spindle to stop vibrations. I already have woodworking chisels that would work on plastic as well so this would mean I had a working lathe of sorts. Just need to wait for all the pieces I need to come up on ebay. LOL.
