Hey everyone, Happy Monday!
So, after figuring out out to get the RSSTs working well on the Evic, I'm looking at buying a "cheap" mechanical mod.
- I have two RSSTs with my favoured flavours in, and I'm paranoid that constantly swapping between them is going to knacker the 510 threading..
- I want something that I can pulse coils with without worrying that I'm going to fry a circuit board!
- Need something thats a bit more resilient than the Evic should it be dropped whilst out and about
- Need something that just works with no messing around.. Especially for when I go fishing! Want to concentrating on the lake, not a mod that won't fire!
I had considered the Evic easy head, but not confident it will give me any more allowances with regard to pulsing?
I'm limiting myself to side-buttoned devices so as to avoid any leakages with the RSSTs.. I also tend to stand my devices up in a tankard overnight to stop the kids getting at the them! With all of this in mind, I've kinda narrowed down to;
UTDL with aftermarket hotspring (£13+£1.75)
Sigelei #20 (£27)
Which of these would you choose? and why?
Is the Sigelei really worth double the price??

Sigeli #20 - better looking, better switch, stainless steel. That;s what I have, really nice, not too big, nice with the button on the side near the top. Can't fault it..

RSST on DrawTube is spanky indeed !!!
I would get a DrawTube of course, best by far in the price range for a no-messing mech mod.

I got a Draw Tube in the AAEC group buy and I use it with my RSST. It is a very solid mod!

Again +1 on the Drawtube - Charlie's dropped his price on them to £39.99 - it's been my default device for a few months with no issues at all to report, and as you can see... it's a perfect combo to the RSST, ESPECIALLY with an 18500 battery.
Top tips: Positive button contacts (atty centre post contact as well as positive battery contact) are plated brass. Use light sand paper to remove the plating.
The same is true of the contact on the base of the button. Give it a light sand - you'll find brass underneath.
Just these two changes will reduce voltage drop by about 0.3v, which doesn't sound a lot, but it makes a big difference.
Final tip: Use Noalox. Every week I used to clean the threads and would get black (oxidised) SS dust. Oxidised SS is NOT conductive. Therefore, the more of it builds up, the more voltage drop you'll experience.
Noalox is a conductive grease. I haven't cleaned my threads in 4 weeks (since applying Noalox) and the drawtube is still behaving itself beautifully. Noalox is pretty much a must-have for any telescopic mod if you want to cut down on cleaning/maintenance. It makes the threads (which are already very good) buttery smooth too.

Thankyou everyone!
Definately between the drawtube and #20 now!
Only thing I'm not sure of is the button being at the bottom of the drawtube.. guess its something you get used to?
Does anyone know where I can find pictures with different size batteries inside?
My biggest thing at the moment is budget as not only will I be buying the mod itself, but also batteries too..
How does the drawtube justify the extra of the sigelei? Is it personal preference or is there something in the spec that makes it worth the extra £12?

For one, I think there's a problem flush-fitting things to the Sigelei, whereas the center post on the DT is fully adjustable. From what I can gather the switch on the #20 can be a PITA... certainly a lot less simple to work on than the DT.
DT is a much simpler device, is easier to 'fix' should anything need tweaking, and therefore will have greater longevity.
