since packing up the cigs both myself and my wife have been getting a foul taste coming from the back teeth,i know you get bleeding (which i have not really had) its not all the time this taste but 3 or 4 times per day. anyone else had the problem? ragjoy...........

Yes, me too.... And I have sore gums. No bleeding, just feels a bit like an abcess, but not as painful, and that taste. Am going to give it a couple more weeks before going to the dentist.

Found this info from a dentist who posted on ECF a while back. OK he is mainly reffering to the bleeding gum problem that someone was experiencing but the bit about how smoking results in"MASKING the usual disease markers" may be appropriate.
Smoking does NOT toughen your gums in a good way. What it does is pump them full of toxins and suppress microcirculation. This has the effect of MASKING the usual disease markers such as bleeding. Cessation of smoking restores the normal vascular response and so smokers will often begin experiencing more bleeding than usual to normal stimuli like brushing shortly after they quit. This is a normal phenomenon.
