My very first motor vehicle. It was what is commonly known as a Boggy. The engine was a direct drive to the rear wheel and came from a Potato Sorter. It did about 5mph on the flat and that is my cousin Colin about to do a test run with it. I on the otherhand got the job of testing it on the hill where it did about 1mph going up and about 40mph coming down, although it felt like well over the Ton. About halfway down the hill and as I applied the brake, this came away in my hand and went flying over the hedge. I then, stupidly, put both feet on the ground (as you do) and the feet stayed glued to the road while the boggy ran on and my legs went under the rear axle. They reckoned that most of my jeans, shoes, socks and skin were left embedded on the road surface and I returned from that holiday swathed in bandages from thighs to toes.

Aw, some Grade-A engineering in that, Lobey. I always wanted an engine in my bogey, but had to put up with a younger bother to act as propulsion unit. We did take it in turns, though; I wasn't a complete bastard.

Thanks Farzooks.
That pic was taken on your island.
The "wee boy" in the pic now owns and runs the farm.

Love it! Back then when there wasn't a risk averse culture... I long for those days again A friend of hours told us about after a massive motorbike smash where he nearly lost a leg he was wheelchair bound but got bored so stuck an engine in it (he's a skilled mechanic and engineer) He used a tiller steering system and used to belt down to the local and have a shandy or 10 on it and then weave back home One day coming back form the pub he misjudged it and when crossing a road built up more speed than the thing could handle for the turn and ended up upside down in a ditch at the side of the road lol!
