That could be an issue Mike, I know for sure that you could feel the wires protruding at the bottom of the coil after I’d done it.
I actually thought that the wire that comes through the little rubber grommet bent over the grommet so I didn’t cut it short.
Will give that a go tonight. Thanks

I use 1.8s on my Spinners and today I tried a 1.6 at a paltry 3.3 (?) volts. Tasty! I don't try low ohm stuff on my Riva though....not that it sees much action.

Managed to get the grips with making the coils last night, made a couple at 1.9ohms and trimming the wire that little extra made the difference with the shorting on the spinner.
Coil is glowing nicely and seems to fire up a lot faster than the standard 2.5ohm heads.
BUT……I’ve now gone from a nice airy draw on the evod to one that is non existent! I fire the spinner up, can hear the juice ‘crackling’ but I can’t for the life of me vape from it – feels like it’s completely blocked up.
I’m using 2mm Ekowool for the wicks which has come highly recommended so what am I doing wrong now to make the vape non existent?

Glad you got the short sorted, now welcome to the wonderful world of vaping. Obviously something is blocking the airway and as you've re coiled it I would think maybe the wick is the culprit? can you draw through it without the battery connected? could be the air holes in the base.

I assumed the wick but I can't quite figure out where the blockage is coming from. I’ve tried the new coil in a couple of evods and still no vape so it cant be the air holes (I cleaned them anyway just in case). The only difference between my coil and the stock one is the wick, the Ekowool is about 3mm x 2mm as comes quite flat rather than being round, but I can't see why this would make too much of a difference when other people re-wick using 3mm silica. I’ve taken it apart and I will try again tonight and see what I can come up with. So frustrating as I know I can do it and I really don’t want to start buying stock heads again – I’m having enough trouble with my DIY juice

Know the feeling, I can recoil for fun but my diy juice is pants. I've never used ekowool but 3x2mm sounds a bit big, I only use 2mm silica ('cos that's what I bought ) Did you put another piece of wick on top of the coil? if so try it without.

As far as I know the 2mm is the internal diameter on the ekowool rather than the external so it's a bit bigger than the normal silica wick.
I might try and roll it first and see if I can get it into a better shape and see if that helps - when I made the coils that didnt work when fully screwed in the draw was excellent so must be a compromise somewhere.
Yeah my juice is not going well. Had been using a USA mix 18mg as the base and adding flavours which was really good. Tried to replicate with a complete DIY and even after a week of steeping they are tasteless.
Going to order some 100ml bottles from Fred at MistEluiquid to keep us going whilst I try and figure out the mixing side of things.

Hi guys just wanted to say thanks for the help (and to Adam78 for his help on PM) as I've now managed to re-coil 7 fully working evod heads! I ended up with a good 5 or 6 wraps of Kanthal and measured in about 2.0ohms – the difference is amazing on the evods. Flavour is a lot better and the spinner is now on low 3.3-3.5 when it was on over 4 most of the time and feel like I’m getting a much better vape.

nice one glad you got the hang of it, more often than not a well re-built ekowool evod vapes noticeably better than with the stock coil.

I use a 1.8ohm head on my protank and have had no problems using it on both my spinners
