sure its the turbo not the famous egr valve which they are prone, plus turbo inlet pipes crack also cause loss of power I took off & cleaned the EGR myself, so I know it's not that......You can hear the blades in the turbo rattling against the casing, so I'm 99.9% sure it's that. The Vauxhall dealer has said it & I also belong to the Astra forum & every reply I've had on there says the same thing....Turbo.....Think I have to resign myself to the fact that it points in that direction andy

What make is it...not VW/Audi group by any chance? For my sins, it's an Astra Estate........great car & well looked after, but, like me, it's best years have passed, so I need to decide if it's worth it........all in all, probably looking at around £800 At least! Unless you get stuff really, really cheap. Turbo's on their own are often around that price (reconditioned), cambelt kits are cheap if you fit them yourself if not then a few hundred in labour.

Yeah, I've been through all the ones on e-bay.....It's where I got the one that's on it now.......paid £90 for it & it's lasted just under 2 years....I also got about 6 quotes from Parts Gateway from different suppliers ranging from £100 - £280, but again, they're taken off of scrap motors etc, so it's pot luck what they're like & how long they'll last

There was somethong on tv last night about cars Chris (can' t remember what it was) but the advice in the end was to scrap the car because it was going to cost more than the car was worth. The poor woman was in tears, i feel for you.

Yeah......I think that's the avenue I will have to wander down...........I was considering SORN'ing it & keeping it as a plaything come hobby, but in truth, I can't really be arsed...........

Sounds very expensive chris, I'd also wander down the scrappy route, unless you want to trade it in, £1000 for any car any condition route

Did you trade in Chris ? ... if not break it yourself and put the parts on ebay ( except the turbo of course ) you should get a good return , then just scrap the shell
