you have my sympathy chrisjw must be the weather, the clutch has just gone on my car (was just about to call it the motorised ashtray, but that doesn't apply anymore!) that and the anti roll bar bushes is setting me back £600, still it will keep me away from Fast tech a while though. icon_shoppingm

What make is it...not VW/Audi group by any chance? For my sins, it's an Astra Estate........great car & well looked after, but, like me, it's best years have passed, so I need to decide if it's worth it........all in all, probably looking at around £800

Ouch, I really feel your pain, Chris. Had car CT last week & all was OK, but the two rear tyres need to be replaced to get the certificate, as one had a nick in it & one a slight crack, wouldn't mind, the tyre with the crack is just under 2yrs old & the little nick has been in the other for 8yrs & gone through 2 CT's before. Saturday, the two boot struts gave up, so in the garage for all of it, plus the service. They phoned to say one brake disk needed replacing too. Grand total just under.....€800!!!

I've heard stories about VW group owners being sold new turbos (as opposed to reconditioned ones) which is expensive and naughty.

I had my old car CT'd in France twice........couldn't believe how strict they were.........That was until I came back here............Lanzarote was a doddle, especially if you took it on a Friday afternoon. All they wanted was to get home for their siesta & would pass anything .........

Awww no! Why do these things always happen when you can least afford it? Sod's law!
I guess it depends on how much the car is worth as to whether you should fix it or scrap it. When my old car died, I got £300 from a scrap dealer. I also managed to sell a non runner on EBay once for just short of £670
As for Vapefest, me and puffingbilly are going Friday, coming back Sunday, so if you need a lift I am very happy to zip round the M25 and pick you up.

Plus they didn't bother with the nick in the tyre, until now! Lanzarote sounds a corker.
