The 10% +2mph 'rule' isn't anything but a recommendation from ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) and various forces can abide by that, or not, as they choose. Some areas are under the thumb of right nasty sods and rigorously enforce the limits with little to no tolerance, while others are rather more flexible. Brunstrom is a case in point - proper little Hitler, he was.

30mph + 10% + 2mph = 35mph - legal 36mph = £60 + 3 points -

Couldn't you have claimed the same as the police officer that was found to be doing nearly 160mph Chris ? I think testing your car's capabilities and honing your skills at 36mph is alot safer than trying the same at 160mph "At the time PC Milton said he had been 'testing' the car's capabilities and 'honing' his skills during the 3am incident on December 5, 2003."

I sympathise chrisjw - I was done a few years back for doing 38 in a 30 zone (main well lit A road) at 4 am where I had not seen another single vehicle in the previous 10 minutes.
