Does anyone know what they make you do on the driving course? A mate of mine went on one recently there was a Asian gentleman there who was very quiet throughout the whole course. At the end they all were asked questions and when he got up he spoke in Chinese, they then discovered he did'nt speak English!

Gutted for you, just to dispel some myths. 36 mph, so your speedo would be reading around the 40mph mark unless it's calibrated (it wont be) as most are around 4 - 5 mph out, some are more depending on wheel size, tyres, age of car etc etc, they are never under (unless faulty), always over, the new equipment and technology makes the van cameras accurate all the way down to 31mph, so 10% rule does not apply to the vans. Tom Tom's are more accurate than your speedo. For the NIP (Notice of intended prosecution) they have 14 days to notify you, by law, if the NIP is outside the 14 days from the time of the offence then contest it, unless you had a letter before saying they intend to prosecute you. By the way if it was a van or static camera that got you these are run by the local authority and not the Police, also they are due to go up to £100 as soon as parliment can be bothered to sign it off, along with seatbelts and some other offences, so you can consider that a bonus icon_shoppingm A summons is sent out as per the law to give you the oppourtunity to contest it (done by computer), once you plead guilty or not guilty by post your either fined (normally 28 days to pay) and send your licence off for points or if you elected to go to Court then a trial date is set. I was done at 33 in a 30 a couple of years ago. Hope this is of use.

We all speed it's just one of those things if you get caught bite the bullet and pay the fine / take the course ... it won't have any real affect unless you get close to the 12 points ....... Then you have to be warey and as far as I am aware the 10% rule STILL applies because an analogue speedo can be up to 10% out of range .
If you got busted at 33 mph your'e a fool to just go ahead and admit guilt , stand your corner and they will back off

I did one about 18 months ago, which is why I can't be eligible for another one..........It was about 4 hours long & we were shown pictures of accidents..........answered questions on speed & stopping distances etc...........oh yeah...& stopped for a cup of tea halfway through........that was about it really.........looking remorseful helps too........ I need this like a hole in the head at this moment in time........... Pointless crying over spilt milk really, unless you have maxxed your 12 points, keep your nose clean for 3 years and happy days, if the fine will trouble you im positive they give you time to pay. I ain't crying about it skwoddy..........I'm guilty obviously & the dosh don't bother me either...........the 3 points on a 40 year, blemish free license has, however, got right up my nose, particularly as I've just insured the new car I'll be picking up next week...one way or the other, that's my premium gone up.........but that's life...........

As for me, I will opt for the course and turn up in my wheelchair hoping I can't access the classroom Just make sure you don't go over the speed limit on entering the establishment..........

Bad luck. You have my sympathy.
(now, before anyone strikes me down.....)
I am very careful and apart from a rush of blood on a bypass 3 months ago (which went unnoticed), I've only ever been close to getting a ticket once. I got chased by a green Volvo on the motorway - I was convinced he wanted a race, or to see my concourse car go a bit faster. It was a traffic cop. D'oh. He let me go....
However, it makes me mad. I live on a 30 road and every night people drive along it as fast as possible, mostly kids (presumably) and people who couldn't give a **** that it's a residential road. I even witnessed a delivery van going over 60mph.
I know 36 isn't really excusable, but where's the sliding scale? There should be one. Everyone but Honda Jazz drivers and Mother Theresa of Calcutta goes inadvertently over 30 now and again. I do it; I notice I'm nearer 35 than 30 and slow down.
I take it you don't need to go to court though? I know a lady that gets done regularly and she is always over the 10%+ thing and has to go to court. It's weird they haven't banned her.....she's been on 9 points for 8 years.
It's all too random for me. Mostly, I feel it's about money.

I was thinking of sporting an eye patch too roger but I think that's pushing my luck Should I re-order that parrot from Paignton Zoo then Dolly? Sorry to hear your news chrisjw... it reminded me of my one speeding ticket (so far), many years ago, when I was clocked at 98mph on the M5 near Gloucester. The fine wasn't too bad £60 even in those days, but what made it worse was that when I was pulled up by the police car, this gorgeous female police driver came over and read me the riot act. Another 2mph and I'd have been for the high jump.

My tomtom has saved my licence many times over with its camera alerts. As an aside, please be aware that if you are driving on the continent this summer, you can be prosecuted if your speed camera alerts on your satnav are turned on, thus warning you of impending speed traps. A mate of mine got done a few months ago, and ignorance was not sufficient to get him off, and he got fined 200 Euros!! Andy

you are NOT shown pictures of accidents. i think it is against human rights or something due to trauma caused. you are taught to recognise different speed limit areas and also how going over the limit affects your stopping distances dramatically. i did the course this year and it was an eye opener BUT one old lady was there after doing 33 in a 30 limit. we all thought that was harsh

I got done doing 33 in a 30 as well, very annoying, especially as I was on a hill going out of a village with no houses around. Now I'm the one that sticks to 30 and has a queue of cars behind me! I couldn't do the speeding course due to my then anxiety problems, so I had to take the points. Cost me a bit over the 3 years with insurance.
