Hi guys I ordered a cobra/chobra from fasttech which arrived today, I oxidised the wick and recoiled, it came out at 1.6ohms, but no matter what voltage I try it at it gives me a burnt taste I don't know what the problem could be, if anyone has a solution please help It's not been a good start into the world Of RBA's :/ Thanks

Have got that with all the genesis when I started, it realyy is a matter of fiddling about, usually the burnt taste is down to a short somewhere, if the coil is glowing in only one spot then thats the problem and you will need to move the wick around until it glows evenly. If that isn't the problem then it could be a multitude of sins. I'm afraid whilst everyone can give you advice it really is a case keep experimenting till u get it right. Not too helpfull I know but the best I can do, there are undoubtedly more experienced people than me that can help you.

Thanks for the reply I'm still having problems with hotspots I drilled a 1.5ml hole to get a more airy draw too

Once it's clean you can then go ahead and coil it up. Once coiled you'll need to check that the coils glow evenly when completely dry. If not, move the coils around until they do so. How does the coil light up? From leg upwards/downwards? Or from the centre of the coil outwards? Does one leg glow brighter than the rest of the coil? Best case scenario is a nicely spaced coil with the legs as short as possible. You also need to make sure that the coil is neither too loose or too tight on the wick material.. Once you've done all of that the last thing to do before filling it up is to check for hot spots. When the wick is saturated, there should be no glowing from any of the coil. This can be very fiddly and sometimes time consuming if a hot spot does decide to rear it's ugly head! You say that it's the same regardless of voltage.. does your device have protection against shorts? Ie is it a mod such as a vamo/provari/evic etc? Or is it a spinner/twist that just regulates voltage? The juice you're using.. am I to assume you've used it in another atty with no issues?

Thanks, yes I'm using a vamo V3 The juice is my own 50/50 blend and does well in the protank @ 2.2ohms at 4.x volts

I always have 4 or 5 mm of mesh above the top turn of the coil to act as a juice reservoir , this will help you eliminate one problem

Very good advice there, most problems come from jumping into wetting the wick before the coil is sorted out, too many reviewers rushing through the process on camera!

That is what happened on my first attempt I filled with juice before I checked for hotspots :/ I don't know how good the SS wick is That came with it but that's all I've got to use at the moment

As long as it fits the hole without rubbing hard on the sides the wick should be useable, You may need to do the genny tilt if its not wicking at an optimum though.

Yeah 500 works fine, I roll mine into a straw and then have some steel cable down the inside, it wicks itself dry without The flooding you get with fat cable wicks.

markm - what dimensions do you cut the mesh to before rolling? I have only used the mesh which came with my AGA T, and have it rolled fairly solid. I snipped the top off as it protruded above the centre post, but apart from that just rolled the whole rectangle. Maybe it's not working because I have used too much mesh!! Andy

I normally go about 20mm wide so that it leaves a nice hollow tube, Like you I trim the length by measuring against the centre post once its test fitted In the wick hole.
Some people prefer solid wicks so no reason it won't work.

Yes its wicking well but its the taste, need to sort those hotspots :/ Also I've noticed none of my drip tips fit in the top hole is quite narrow.
