I have been looking at the materials available ... Does the Ekowool (hollow) offer a real difference compared to silica? Yes I know, everything is subjective ...
Just looking to see different opinions ... Oh and how about ribbon wire compared to 'normal? Does the extra width of the ribbon restrict the use to the vertical wick devices or could it be used in an EVOD head for instance?

Flavour is better using Ekowool . . . although I'm also perfectly happy with silica WB, although some folk find it can have a ' taste ' to begin with, until the coil gets run it. I haven't used Ribbon Kanthal, again I'm perfectly happy with either NC or standard Kanthal, I understand it again is supposed to give better flavour, because of the larger surface area. There's a thread here that discusses it at some length: allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/16641/flat-kanthal?page=1

Haven't tried Ekowool so can't comment on that but what i will say is that not all silica wick is equal, i've tried quite a few from different suppliers & some have a funky taste & some don't wick so well.
I only buy silica wick from 2 places - cig-eliquid & a chap who sells via the classies over the road on UKV. That's not to say that you can't get good silica wick from elsewhere but i'm happy to stick with what i know works for me.

Eko wool is excellent for some juices but not all For instance, GVC is great with it but cocomel just doesn't seem to work well with it at all. So like everything else in the this game its taste subjective. Ribbon wire only really comes into its own on a mesh wick, on silica you will hardly notice any difference. Also it takes up more space on the wick making it a challenge to fit inside an evods chimney.

Haven't tried eko wool but have tried kanthal wire and ribbon. I find the ribbon gives a harsher vape, and as I'm a mellow vape guy I stick to wire at the mo.

Ekowool for me wicks so much faster than silica, so for evods and protanks it's great as it's quite cramped at the bottom and there is very little wick, also if it was not for Ekowool i would of binned my AGA-S as silica wick was not working very well with it

So far I have found Ekowool works best for me. Standard silica wick seems far more variable in quality.

Thanks all ... I'v ordered 1, 2, and 3 mm in Ekowool and .3, .4 and .5 Ribbon as well. So a lot of mixing and matching to come methinks ...

.5 ribbon is very wide and low resistance, you might be able to get enough wraps in a large dripper But it's more of a genny wire.
