I have just read the following while searching for some de-ionised water closer to home as my nearest Halfords is approx 8 miles away, i copied & pasted it to see what anyone thought.
I have just bought all my various bottles for the next batch of mixing. but this time around I bought the VG glycerine from boots. As many people do for a 100% VG mix, i want to thin the Glycerine down with some Distilled water. So I read on here and other forums that people are using De-ionised water for car batteries or the like. But thought to myself that this is an industrial water - De-ionised is filtered not heated or distilled, so could potentially, and probably does contain microorganisms of some kind, it would be put in unsterilized containers and stored as an industrial product not a food. The reason for making this thread is to bring this up: I spoke to the Boots pharmacist today and asked if de-ionised water from hardware/car shops is safe to drink or inhale as vapour? His answer was a straight NO! De-ionised water from a car or hardware shop, is not fit for human consumption, by drinking or otherwise consumed. I asked him what the alternative would be? He suggested purified water, which is distilled and bottled in a sanitary manner.
This is available to order from boots, but only in 5 litre bottles! LLyoyds chemist and tesco pharmacy can order them in 2ltr (still a huge amount) I went up to tesco to see if they had any off the shelf, but ended up ordering a 2ltr bottle from them @ £2.47 so even its 100 times the amount I need its a good enough price, I think I will freeze the remaining to keep it fresh till the next time I need 20ml. I wanted to flag this up as I realise that its widely accepted to use De-ionised water. I Know there are also alternatives such as Voka and of course PG. but for those who dont want to or cant use either of those, purified water is the safe option. I hope this thread can become a resource for knowledge. please dont just post Ive been vaping de-ionised water for Xyears and its never done me any harm. as thats not the point!! I would say based on the advice I received it is probably not safe and certainly not necessary to consume a water made for industry Alternatives are: Distilling your own Buy some purified water from a pharmacy Use injectable water(if you have access to such a thing!) Vodka or PGA Vape this! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Not this!

I understand what you are saying about de-ionised water, as it's basically filtered to prevent deposits within batteries etc, but thing is, purified water will become unpure as soon as you open the lid so go figure!

Boots gylycerine was ok for me bazzer i didn't dilute it as my nic base was in pg & when i added my 10% flavour plus the glycerine to make total mix it was fine, 3 of my family & myself have been using it for the last few months with no problems

I agree totally with you on this. Unfortunately we can not control what juice makers put in their liquid before we buy it, but as far as diluting anything myself I would use vodka. There is no way on this earth I would ever use distilled or de-ionised water. I swallow and inhale enough vodka anyhow, so that's the safe option for me. Talking of vodka , just to digress, has anyone tried the Smirnoff espresso, it's absoloutely fantastic.

I use the boots VG as well but mix all my liquids as 50/50 and premix my VG with PG and use nothing else. Been doing this for two years and it works just fine, no added vodka or water needed for the VG.
EDIT: Its distilled water you use, de-ionized is not pure as has been said. You can of course make it yourself if you have the time, you just need to boil a pan and have a glass cover to collect the steam and let it condense and drip into a glass bottle.

Generally water vapour (steam) is safe to breathe in even direct from the tap. Water used in Sauna's are not marked as drinking water in many countries. Britain is one of the very few countries which supplies drinking water in all taps.
Deionised or distilled water is used to cut VG because it is non-conductive to prevent the atty shorting out. Impurities normally present in drinking water cause it to conduct electricity. There is no difference in water vapour regardless of de-ionised or distilled. However, as pointed out distilled water is no longer 100% distilled once opened.
Whatever gives one peace of mind, I guess.

Haha we have a game called In Your Face it's mint for bbq's / boozy parties, with a group of peeps a question is asked & has to be answered in a few seconds, the first not to have an answer gets squirted in the face with water from the device & then has to drink a shot of whatever you have in shot glasses, it's hilarious everyone loves the game & goes on to buy it themselves for their next party, (sorry Sammy I forgot it yesterday for dreamy's party lol)
