De-ionised water, is it safe?

I distil my own if I ever need any, shallow pan of boiling water with a bowl in the middle, pan lid on upside down..

vereybowring thanks for your reply, I use 36mg nic base in pg to this I add at least 10% flavouring & the rest vg to bring it down to 18mg, am I mixing this correct & will this be enough to dilute the vg, or do I need to dilute the vg before I add it to my mix, I'm getting confused with it now ???

You most likely wouldn't need to dilute it any at those quantities dinamic, if you did it's probably better to dilute your bottle of VG before starting any mixing..

Why not?   

It tastes horrid and goodness knows what is in it - have you seen what it does to your kettle etc, it's ok to wash in but that is all.
Abroad even civilised countries like Spain they tell you not to drink the water, don't even brush your teeth in it etc, it should be the same here.

Lol sammy13 the water is is fine around here, very soft, so no limescale deposits on anything

Honestly though, there is nothing wrong with the UK water supply anywhere. Well, apart from if you're in the country on a private water supply, but one does become immune to e-coli etc in these circumstances

Thanks for your replies it seems a little clearer now, I didn't think about it until ancient hermit started a thread earlier about % of cutting VG & I thought about my new bottle looking a bit gloopy so thought about diluting it.

You are lucky.
My kettle is green and furry within a week of been cleaned. I buy a brand new one yearly if not before.
I don't drink water anyhow, why does anyone want to drink something that tastes of nothing? People say how much water do you drink? Well maybe one glass of spa water in the last 5 years ???
For mixing with cordial or other things where it is not boiled first  I buy bottled water.

He suggested purified water, which is distilled and bottled in a sanitary manner.

This is available to order from boots, but only in 5 litre bottles!

LLyoyds chemist and tesco pharmacy can order them in 2ltr (still a huge amount)

I went up to tesco to see if they had any off the shelf, but ended up ordering a 2ltr bottle from them @ £2.47 so even its 100 times the amount I need its a good enough price, I think I will freeze the remaining to keep it fresh till the next time I need 20ml.


I wanted to flag this up as I realise that its widely accepted to use De-ionised water. I Know there are also alternatives such as Voka and of course PG. but for those who dont want to or cant use either of those, purified water is the safe option.

I hope this thread can become a resource for knowledge. please dont just post Ive been vaping de-ionised water for Xyears and its never done me any harm. as thats not the point!!

I would say based on the advice I received it is probably not safe and certainly not necessary to consume a water made for industry

Alternatives are:

Distilling your own
Buy some purified water from a pharmacy
Use injectable water(if you have access to such a thing!)
Vodka or PGA

I totally agree with you, over the years we have all consummed loads of crap but we made a conscious decision to stop smoking so why start again, I personally use vodka, bought a miniature from my local booze shop £1.98 & have been using that for the past 4 months & its only half way down the bottle. You are doing the right thing in my opinion.

Seriously though we have quit something we have been told is bad for us even though we enjoyed it, so we should make vaping as chemical free as it can be.
