Does this Camera seem anygood?

Looking to buy a new camera, at present i have a :http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/DSC-W320/specifications

The problem with that camera is it's fine for daytime pictures but very poor for night time pictures.

Was thinking about this one: www.ephotozine.com/article/canon-ixus-255-hs-review-21819

Any thoughts? or is there better for that price?

Super-Shiny I have various SLR cameras but also have a previous model to this one the TZ20, the photo quality is excellent & also takes very good video, the zoom is outstanding for this size of camera, the only down side is the flash range but that will apply to all compacts you go for.
As a take anywhere point & shoot you won't go far wrong, ignore the price they quote shop around for a great deal on a great camera

they are both the same camera. (your sony and the canon you linked) If you want better low light performance you need a bigger hole for the light to come thru.
The Panny is actually less sensitive then what you are using now. Max apature on the Sony is F2.7, Canon F3.0, Panny F3.3.

I think you might want to look at an entry level DSLR as most "compact" cameras are going to disappoint at night and in low light conditions.

Can you link a good camera around the £180 too £230 mark? I am just lost when it comes to these things.

Main use would be for holidays, problem i have with the camera atm is it is crap at night time piccys no matter how much i change the settings

Do you have children, pets? Do you take photos of objects in motion often?
Do you make prints from the images or only view them on a screen/dig picture frame?

Please consider that a camera with better low light and night shot performance WILL be larger then what you have now.
Think small pouch on hip versus in the shirt pocket size.

Open to new memory
Got 4 kids and 1 dog but mainly piccys will be of kids and family
Mainly view pics on computer or use  photobox if i need prints
Size of camera is not a issue

Just typed half a page on aperture v sensor size in low light then deleted it! Wrong forum for photography tips and advice, but what Izan said is about right, as long as you bear in mind aperture size is relative to sensor size.
Bullet tips
Low f number, potentially better light capability.
Over 8-9 Megapixels is absolutely pointless unless you intend to print, regularly, over a3. Honestly.
Bigger sensor, better quality, pretty reliably.
Better glass, better quality, always.
Bigger megapixels, better quality, only behind a major piece of glass and on a big big sensor.
Photography tips on an ecig forum, pretty unreliable, usually.

You can't go wrong with a Panasonic lumix with Leica glass in your budget, but google it before you buy it.

Bit of a low down to make things more simple:

I am looking for a camera that is better than what i have atm, the problem i have with the camera atm is it is crap at night time piccys no matter how i adjust the menus, and another problem is that my OH seems to have a knack of a shaky hand when taking piccys

I just want something that is a lot clearer than what i have atm and that is good for holiday piccys not just at daytime but mainly at night.

Not looking for something to take piccys at flowers or anything like that just basic stuff

Looking for around the max mark of £220.00, would prefer lower as it gives me more vape gear

Rom don't dismiss the panny it's one for your short list the o/h even gets some great shots, the only way to get great night shots with any camera is either with a dedicated powerful flash like on an SLR or use a tripod for low light shots.
Unless you want to lug heavy camera gear around on hols stick to the compacts or at a push go for a hybrid but you will have buy extra lenses which don't come cheap.

First choice is going to be the Panasonic Lumix LX7


It is out of the target price, but it checks every box except price. Read some reviews and think about it.

Part of the issue is that the Sony you have is a nice camera, even three years or more down the line, it still holds it's head up proudly.

Maybe find a retailer that has them and give it a fondle and a few test shots. (remember to bring the the Sony so you can take the same shots and compare the images.)

rom the money you spend on vape gear, you would be better getting a decent camera, by that i mean a dslr that will last years and years, i bought the step daughter a nikon d40 with two lenses for 220 quid for christmas of of ebay, since then she has taken thousands of pics and never leves home without it virtually, quality lasts. See my avatar, i took that 3 weeks ago on a windy tintagel without a macro lens, used a nikon d90 at a distance of about 6 inches and cropped the pic.

Rom, buy a Nikon, nothing else. And if you want to take pics in any conditions, of any subject, then you need it to have a manual overide function. From there, you move forward.

My opinion is that if you want to take good pictures you need to compose them. That means you need a camera with a good viewfinder. The best viewfinders in the business are to be found on DSLRs. With a DSLR you see the picture through the actual lens that will take it, and you can use different lenses for different purposes. An entry level DSLR will be larger and heavier than a compact camera, but will be incredibly versatile. All the pics in my personal gallery were taken with a Nikon DSLR and I recommend them highly.

ETA: If you are particularly interested in night and other low-light photography you can buy yourself a 'fast' lens that will let more light into the camera (look at f1.4 lenses). With the larger sensor that DSLRs have you can operate even by candle-light with the right setup.
