Hi i have had a go at rebuilding Nova coils over the last couple of weeks. First one i made was popping badly ,my coil looked good but was too tightly wound on the wick.
Since then i have got better and have made 4 heads which are about 3 ohms each i went for 6 turns which sits really tight in the head.
The question is what is the correct gauge of kenthal to use in Nova's ,i read people are using .20mm Kenthal but to me it seems much thicker than the original coil wire in novas. Would .15 or .17 be better to work with requiring less turns to get the same resistance .
What would you suggest is the best working resistance for heads in a Nova?
I would normally run my vamo with a Nova at about 6.5 watts but with my home made coils its about 9 watts to get the same vape.
I take it the lower the resistance in the head the lower the power setting in watts and the higher the resistance the higher the power required for the same output.
I think i pretty well have this i would appreciate a little guidance to get it right for myself and my friends and neighbours as i will be the one keeping all their vamo's going.

I'm no expert coiler, but you've got nothing else yet,so- I do 4 on the top, 3 on the bottom, 0.16 nichrome round 2mm wick, and that comes out at about 1.9 ohms. Easy to fit that in a nova/vision ego (CE5)/evod. I thought the whole thing about variable wattage was that you get the same 'vape experience' no matter what resistance your atty? Sounds to me like somthing is awry, but as I said, I'm no expert

Yes i read that also about variable wattage i think in general that should be correct, but would'nt you perhaps get a different vape with a coil with more turns using more of the wick ,the reason i say that is that my big coils seem to give more taste than the original one did ,perhaps its not got to work so hard as its using much more wick ,geez i thinking into this to much.
So i need say .17 kenthal and less turns say 4 or 5 and look for about 2 ohms on the coil?.
I bet when you get these things right your heavenly vaping compared to the coils they come with. Thanks Fred

scooter1 - I use .2 Kanthal and 3mm silica wick to recoil my Novas, and 4 on top, 3 underneath gives me about 1.9ohms - works perfectly on my Vamo, vaping at about 7w - I don't use voltage much, just wattage. I recoil winding around a thin sewing needle, and this gives enough space on the coil to allow the wick to supply the right amount of juice to the coil. Hope this helps! Andy

Ok i took the dog a walk and the penny dropped ,4 turns over a 3mm wick ,right ok so i have been doing to many turns ,4 turns then ,just tried one i made the other day its doing a little popping so the coil must be to tightly wound ,i stuck a needle thru the center of the wick so when removed the coil would'nt be so tight ,obviously i need to try and wrap looser. Thanks bro

Right i see with the pic what you mean ,so once you finish you unwrap the wick each side of the coil so there is 4 wick tails each side going into the liquid.
Iam also cutting the small V's into the coil cap so it does'nt squeeze the wick letting juice flow better.
Its just practice now and not so tight on my coiling.

The pic is just to show you the coils, I haven't a clue why the wick is twisted that way I wouldn't cut the cap until you find you need to but I use 0.2mm wire on 2mm silica and haven't had to cut the cap on any coil head I've recoiled.

I ain't read into much but that is one very loose coil I just got the pic off a google search to show the coils but I reckon if you pulled the wick through it wouldn't be too loose?

scooter1 - due to the way a nova/evod/ce5/etc is recoiled, you will always have 1 more on the top than on the bottom. Count the wires on the pic mikeb linked - there are 5 crossing the top of the wick and 4 crossing the bottom of the wick. So - 5 on the top, 4 on the bottom. If someone says it has 5 coils, is that on the top or the bottom of the wick? That pic actually has 4 1/2 full coils, but that's even more confusing. So once it's coiled, you will have 1 more on the top than you have on the bottom

For coiling i just get a paperclip and put the wick horizontal along it and wrap the coil tight around it and once the paperclip is released the wick expands just right to the coil for a snug fit

A little help really helps and is much appreciated gents.
