We have an allotment and polytunnel in our back garden. Love growing our own food but hate the weeding! The best bit is having a complete meal that your have produced yourself. Yesterday we had our own pork chops with freshly dug up potatoes, peas and courgettes. Lovely! In the polytunnel we have cucumbers, tomatoes and the melons are just coming on. In the garden peas, broad beans, haricots, cucumbers, tomatoes, sweetcorn, aubergines, strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrents, blackberries, goosberries(red and green) grapes, kiwis, potatoes, onions(red and white) cabbages(red and white) cauliflowers, Brussel sprouts and broccoli. Also have trees, apple, cherry(red, yellow and black)plum, walnut and pear!

But as regards the tobacco leaves I think you have harvested them a little to soon. mmm , I'm not sure , I've been taking them off the bottoms of the plants as soon as they start to droop and turn yellow but in the photo they still look very green but this is my first crop so it's a bit of a learning curve for me . I do know that once they're dried there's not much left of them . I've cut the stalks out & pressed the 1st lot and not got much to show for them considering how much I had to start with but it smells lovely even though some more of the curing process to go yet. I'll post some more pics as I go along .

Its not long ago that I deleted a full folder of pics of growing tobacco right from seed to smoking the stuff , the only thing I have left now is a couple of carrier bags full of dried cured leaves that I will never smoke due to giving up the fags.

We will definitely miss ours but at least we will still get fresh veg. Can't wait for some tomatoes, nothing beats fresh home grown tomatoes

My hubby's mate is at least 20 years younger than us so we will still have fresh produce to look forward to Look forward to the pics dinamic22

Yes they do smell lovely Anne & i love the smell of runner beans too as they are cut up, have you ever noticed the price of runner beans in supermarkets? We have seen about 6 beans in a pack for £1-95 yet we have picked a carrier bag full every second day all through the beans growing season so why are they that ridiculous price.
I forgot to add rhubarb to the list of home growns too.

Last year I had loads in the freezer, they lasted until Christmas Yes, we had rhubarb too and will still get loads from hubby's mate. Doesn't take long to make a crumble and they are delicious

I picked my first decent amount of runner beans today and I have 14 canes on the go! Also picked a good portion of french beans and loads of Tumbling Toms which are particularly sweet this year and 3 lovely outdoor cucumbers. I dunno whats happened to my courgettes though they seem to have stopped growing I have a load of finger sized courgettes on the plant but they've been that size for about a week, strange! I made a lovely courgette based Moussaka yesterday.

Hey mybad, maybe you could send then to Ron? He makes a lovely smooth steeped tobacco concentrate.
