With Proboards V5 it is so easy to add a shoutbox so wondering if you would all like one?

Nope, not for me, they cause forums to turn onto a chat room and a lot of important information particularly for newbies gets lost.

Nope, the post count will plummet, mobile devices won't refresh fast enough to keep up with a conversation on 3G leaving the shoutbox for those on a PC and everyone else left out.

No for me too, I hate it, it comes over to me as just another instant messaging thing that leaves people behind in a conversation.
For those that have not tried it, imagine having a conversation with 10 or 20 people at the same time and by the time you have typed an answer or message to someone 9 or 19 others have typed something, you end up 3 pages behind the original question and can never catch up because by the time you have looked back 3 pages to see if anyone else has typed something relevant, it has moved on another 3 pages.
Have I already said that I really hate it?
It detracts from our usual ethos of posting and reading at our own leisure because you are too busy trying to keep up with what is being typed.
Just my opinion of course

Got to admit, I've never been keen on shoutboxes myself, but as I'd had a request from a valued member, I felt I had to put it to the vote

Chrissie... seems like a version of Twitter... jibberish. Does not allow for considered opinions. Although the board you've used is not particularly active, on a busy forum it would just get silly.

Perhaps if it was in an unobtrusive position, or an option to display or not, for those that want it, then maybe. But if it was 'in your face' then it would diminish the value of the forum.
